“Regular,” Hammer states, though, I have a feeling Tate was going to get the ones he wants.

“You go sit, baby, I’ll bring you something to eat.”

“Always feeding me,” I mumble and smile at him.

“Gotta feed you both.” He chuckles and kisses the side of my head before following after Hammer and Tate.

I joined the group, taking the seat next to the one Tate was sitting in.

“The coffee throw was pretty funny. The scream, totally hilarious.” CJ laughs.

“If she messes with you anymore, I’d bash her head against the bar top.” Rebel snickers.

“I knew I liked you.” Chelsea snorts. “If I had Sassy with me, I’d sic her on the whore. She wouldn’t mess with you again.”

“Hopefully, I got my message across.” I’m not a confrontational person.

“Time will tell,” Avery states. “They’re a dime a dozen, thinking their who-has smell like roses and lilies. I have to stand my ground against them every so often, but Hammer makes it known he’s not to be fucked with. Nor am I.”

“I think all of our men do that,” Zennia says, smiling as Dagger sets a plate of bacon, eggs, a pancake, and grits in front of me.

“I can’t eat all of this,” I tell him.

“Eat what you want to, baby.” He kisses the top of my head. “I’ll check on you in a bit. Gotta get back to church.”

“Okay.” I want to tell him I love him, but fear of freaking him out keeps my words at bay.

I want to question myself about timing. Is it too soon? Shouldn’t we know each other better? The time to tell him just has to come when I can say it.

I love him. There’s no doubt about it.

As he leaves me to eat, I am enveloped in the conversation flowing around me, and I know I won’t get to write the song in my head yet, but it’s still there. Flowing freely in a way music never has before. This life is becoming more beautiful with everything I’m being handed each day.

Talking with these women. Laughing with them. I don’t think of the danger. I don’t think about what the men are all discussing. But I know I should be. However, I’m trusting in what Dagger said and letting him protect me. Protect us.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Dagger

“Fuckin’ idiot, you know that,” Gunner growls, storming in my direction. “You are a goddamn idiot. I’m kicking your ass when this is over with.”

“He’s mine to deal with, Gunner,” I tell him, looking past him to see the rest of my brothers stalking in my direction.

“You think you’re gonna face this bastard alone, think again,” Hammer seethes. “We’re brothers, and we do this shit together.”

“It’s me he wants.”

“He’s not getting you alone,” Malice states, ice dripping from his words. “I don’t give a damn if he wants you, he’s not getting you alone.”

I clench my jaw, feeling the weight of my brothers’ protective fury. They’re right, of course. We’ve been through hell together, stood back-to-back against enemies that would have torn us apart individually. But this is different.

We’re going against a man I grew up with. A man I shared blood with. Vin was no longer anything to me. None of them were. I’d turn my back on that part of my life a long time ago. Ijust didn’t know I’d have to kill the past to keep my present and future from being harmed.

I won’t let Vin get away with threatening my woman and unborn child.

“You coming alone is exactly what he wants. You think he is?”

“I know he’s not,” I answer Hammer’s question.
