Onyx stares at me, waiting for me to elaborate as I take a sip of my tea. It tastes like shit. He doesn’t understand tea at all but I refrain from pulling a face. Tea is an art form and Onyx is an uncouth yob.
“Camilla is up to something and I want your help finding out why.”
“Are you trying to steal my girl?” Onyx asks suddenly, acting as though I never even spoke. I laugh.
I would one hundred percent have fucked her if she had wanted it. Now we are so far into the friend zone my dick is safely tucked away in my trousers. He’s practically fucking turtling.
“No. Believe it or not, Amelie is my friend. For no ulterior motive. Shocking, I know. I didn’t believe it either at first.”
“Fine, what do you know?”
I run through everything, even admitting to working for Camilla to keep Amelie safe. Onyx agrees he would have done the same thing, so I doubt there’s a hit on my head yet.
It’s too late for Amelie to walk away now, it would disrespect the board, especially the ones backing her. So we need a solid plan to deal with this. Onyx and I discuss our options butultimately we agree that we’re going to have to work together on this.
Amelie isn’t stupid. She would have her doubts as to why Camilla hasn’t fought harder to be in her life, but if we come out and forbid her from getting to know her grandmother, she will do everything in her power to be on Camilla’s side. I’m sure that is what the old bat wants.
I’m struggling to understand what it is that Camilla does want. She was also rejected for being a woman, and that would have hurt her pride, so she wouldn’t just be happy for Amelie. There has to be more...something we don’t know about.
