“So...what’s your name again?”
“Amelie. Anyway, let’s cut to the chase, we wanted you here for a reason. You can decline, finish out your time here and move on or…”
“Or what?”
“You initiate and join our club.”
“Your club? What are we, ten?”
“Stop with the smart-ass attitude. We have an elite club, if you will. You join and you’ll have access to resources beyond your wildest dreams. You’ll work for me, and you’ll have access to computers.”
She quirks a brow at me. “So that’s what this is, you want me to do something for you.”
“Will you shut up and listen?” I snap. Walking closer to her, I lean down, placing my hands on the arms of the chair to bring myself face to face with her.
“I run the most exclusive ‘club’ in the world. I wouldn’t cross me right now. If you want in, you will initiate like everyone else. But if you want in and you pass, you can never get out…you catch my drift?”
“Oh, you’re one of those clubs. Like a secret society.” She beams.
“Something like that. Your skillset would be invaluable to us.”
“And what’s in it for me?” she counters.
“Not spending your life in jail, plus the resources to take out that sex ring for good. Is that enough incentive?”
“Can I kill the person who took my sister?”
“I will personally give you our best weapons for hire to help with that.”
Her smile is genuine.
I feel so bad that her sister was involved in something like that. I’m glad The Order doesn’t have anything to do with that. I’m apparently down for killing and can even understand trafficking weapons and drugs, but trading people is a hard line for me.
“Fine, I’m in. Just tell me where and when this initiation is.”
“Now that’s all sorted girls, I have work to do. Amelie, take Mackenzie to get fitted for her uniform and to get her schedule, and then show her to her room please.”
I gesture for Mackenzie to follow me. She grabs her backpack and we head towards the door. She exits first and I turn back to Monty.
“Just a heads up, my father is coming for my inauguration.”
“I’m glad to hear it. Laura is going to a spa while all this is happening, so she won’t be in anyone's way.”
“Thank you.”
He nods, and I join Mackenzie in the reception area where Adrianne is waiting with my sandwich.
“Here boss. They were not happy to see me after the whole ice cream debacle, so I may have promised them that Kalen would owe them a favour.” I snort. Of course she offered him up as collateral. If only she knew the weight of the word ‘favour’ that she bandys about like candy.
“You know you’re going to have to forgive him eventually. He fucked up and he knows it.”
“I know, but making him sweat it out doesn’t hurt either.”
I shake my head but I can’t help but smile. “Adrianne, this is Mackenzie.”
“Nice to meet you. I have to get back to class. I only asked for a toilet pass but I don’t know if I can talk my way out of this one.”
Adrianne runs off and leaves us to it. I go over to the administration desk and the lady prints off Mackenzie’s timetable and hands me a package that will have her device and room card in it. I open the thick envelope and pull out the swipe card and see that she’s on the same floor as I am.
