“We’re working out! Of course I’m breathing hard.”

“And your nipples are always like diamonds when you work out, baby?” I smirk at her when she’s too flummoxed to reply. “The thing I love most though, is seeing how far you’ve come. You’re so strong now, but you still have your softness. You’re still you.”

“On—” Feeling like that’s enough sappy, mushy stuff for one day, I grind my dick into her centre and grin at her.

“You’re losing, baby.”

She grunts and huffs at me, and I’m distracted enough that she’s able to get her knee between our bodies, and from there she pushes me away and rolls to the side.

Unwilling to relinquish control that easily, I reach out and grab the back of her legs and pull her back closer to me. She squeals but doesn’t fight back. She rolls closer to me and climbs over me to straddle my waist. In this position, all thoughts of training fly from my mind.

My phone rings from my gym bag. I sit forward and Amelie clings to me, so I stand and walk us both to the corner of the room where I left my shit. I sit with my back to the wall and my girl rubs her pussy against my already hard cock. I groan, taking out my phone and look at the caller ID. It’s my mum. Amelie raises a brow as I answer the call but she doesn’t stop moving.

“Hey, Mum, is everything okay?”

“Everything is fine, sweetheart. I wanted to invite you to dinner tonight. Amelie too.”

“Is that really a good idea?”

“Look, I acted like an idiot. Amelie turning up opened old wounds and I responded like a child. I should have the opportunity to apologise.”

I look up at Amelie and she nods.

“Okay, we’ll be there.”

Amelie grinds herself against me and I end the call with my mum abruptly.

Before Amelie gets the chance to protest, I have her laid flat on her back and I hover over her. She smiles up at me and I grin back. I feel like a lovesick idiot. I haven’t been truly happy in a long time, but since the accident I can’t help but enjoy every second we spend together.

After training, I drop Amelie at her room and Jasper meets us there. I’m still furious at him for scaring her over that Elsiedrama, and I’m starting to feel like every asshole I hate she takes on as a friend just to spite me.

“Do you trust her?” Slate asks, stripping out of his school uniform and throwing it into the dirty hamper. I’m back in my own room and have filled my twin in on my earlier phone call.

“I don’t know, but she’s our mother and we at least owe her a chance to make it right. Sawyer wouldn’t let Amelie walk into a trap.”

I finish lacing up my trainers while Slate throws on a pair of sweats and a hoodie. Nice to see him dress up for our mother. I give him a look and he just shrugs.

“It’s dinner with mum. If I wanted to dress up, I would have dinner with Dad.” I laugh. He’s right.

I can’t deny that my motivation for dressing up isn’t for our parent, it’s for our girl. As much as I don’t have an issue with her dating my brothers, I still have to fight for her attention, and I know she likes me in these trousers. She might not remember, but I do. She always makes a point to tell me how nice my ass looks. Let Slate wear his sweats, Amelie will only have eyes for me. Well, my ass.

“Let’s go. Sawyer just texted. He’s waiting with the others.”

I grab my phone and we head to meet them. Sawyer is parked outside and Frost's car is behind his. Thank god. Jasper must have the night off.

We need to talk to Frost about hiring a few more guards. I know Baxter organised them, but they ultimately work for The Order and we need Amelie protected around the clock. A world full of powerful men that are unhappy a woman has taken over? Certain death is not enough to stop them from taking her out.

My grandfather is one of them, and we’re no closer to finding him. He’s vanished and gone off grid, which makes him more dangerous than ever. I can’t ever forget it. Can’t let my guard down.

Sebastian, on the other hand, has been captured and is being held underground. He’ll never see the light of day again. That’s one thing we rushed to sign off on before Amelie was sworn in, though the deed itself hasn’t been carried out. Yet.

I don’t know if she’s strong enough to sign off on a death at the moment, so this was a kindness.

“Hurry up, fuckers!” Kalen yells from the passenger seat and I shake my head, already knowing he’s called shotgun on our girl. Not that I care, because – and I’m sure Slate would agree – she is the best meat in what she calls a twin sandwich.

We get to the car and my twin clearly has the same idea as me, because he walks around and gets in on the right-hand side, leaving me the left. Opening the door and taking in Amelie as she smiles at me leaves me breathless. Her curls are down, the crown of her head covered by a black beanie. I think she may even be starting to get used to the weather and I instantly take back that statement when I slide into the car and feel that the heat is on. Both Slate and I take off our hoodies with a groan.

Kalen turns back to look at us and laughs, but his smile turns to a frown when it dawns on him that we got the better deal. I give him a smirk alongside the finger, and he turns back around with a huff.
