“What? No.”
“Must be stuffed after that sandwich.”
I frown. What is he on about?
“Kalen, I don’t have time for your cryptic bullshit. Move outta my way, I need to check on my bestie!” I shove past him and cross Elsie’s room to where she’s curled up on her bed, in Jasper’s arms. He’s holding her so carefully, and the way he’s stroking her hair is almost...tender.
“Els,” I say, stepping towards her. Her eyes meet mine and a laugh bursts from her lips. “What?” I groan.
“Oh Amelie, you have sex hair.”
“What?” I cry, hands flying to my head which I discover now resembles a bird’s nest. Shit! Wet hair and rough sex do not mix well with my hair type. Desperately, I try to smooth it out but Elsie delicately gets to her feet, crosses the room and gets her hairbrush for me.
“Who was it?” she asks me curiously, gazing between Onyx and Slate as if contemplating who’s responsible for the state I’m in.
“I told you she ate a sandwich!” Kalen crows. “A twin sandwich!”
My cheeks flame as I look at Elsie begging her to understand, but she smiles at me like it’s not an issue at all. Throwing my arms around her, I hug the shit out of her and vow to hurt anyone and everyone who was involved in the sick and twisted prank downstairs. She pats my back in understanding.
The twins take Kalen’s teasing as their cue to leave, Kalen declares the rest of the day a write off and decides we will bein need of movies, ice cream and vodka. He makes a phone call and has fluffy pillows and everything else we need delivered, and we spend the rest of the day stuffing our faces. Kalen acquaints me with Bridget Jones and I surprisingly find the movies highly entertaining.
Kalen Knox may be a lot of things, but he sure knows how to make a girl feel better when something shitty happens. It pulls at my heart strings and reminds me what I love – like – what Ilikeabout him.
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Amelie
One thing Smalls always says is that revenge is a dish best served cold. Marcia will get hers just when she starts to think I have forgotten. She manages to scurry away like a scared rodent every time she is alone and crosses my path. Kalen has been very creative with ideas to get back at her, but I want to hit her where it hurts the most. I need a favour from Baxter but the guy is like a ghost at the moment, and do I really want to owe him another favour? God knows what I will have to do to repay the first one. If I hadn’t taken sex off the table I’m sure he would have had me locked in a sex dungeon as repayment. Which really doesn’t sound so bad come to think of it.No, Amelie, you have four hot and willing men already, save some sexiness for other women.
“Hey, what are your plans for the afternoon?” Kalen asks.
“I have a self-defence class off campus with Sawyer, and then we are doing dinner,” I say and he pouts.
“How do you feel about sex dungeons?” I ask, making him perk up a little.
“I feel like, if you know where one is and are holding out on me, then I would be pissed.”
That makes me laugh. “No sex dungeons that I know of, but I was thinking about this favour I owe Baxter.”
“And that made you think about sex dungeons? And everyone thinksmybrain is warped...” Kalen says as we walk through the front doors to the school, Sawyer is leaning against his car in his work out gear. “Wipe the drool from your face, sis, and go get your man.”
A smile forms on my lips at his words, my man. He isn’t employed here anymore. A quick kiss to Kalen’s cheek and I run down the steps and launch myself at Sawyer, his strong arms wrap around my ass holding me up. My lips press to his.
“Mmm, I think I like this kind of hello.”
I mumble something in response against his lips. I felt so guilty the last few weeks that I asked Sawyer to take things slow and yet I had given in to my stupid urges with everyone but him. So tonight I plan to make it all about him and the pesky task of finding someone other than Baxter that I can trust to find me information on the Wilson family that Marcia’s sister is planning to marry into.
Sliding down Sawyers body, I drop to my feet and he opens the car door for me. He has country pop music playing. I have never appreciated country music before, but I’m not opposed to this Sam Hunt guy he really seems to like.
“Can I ask you something?” I blurt out of nowhere, reaching over to turn the music down.
“You can always ask me whatever you like,” he says, glancing over at me. His grey eyes sparkle. They were one of the first things that drew me to Sawyer, his eyes, he smiles with them and they light up his entire face.
“Well, I know The Order stuff is hush hush, and I’m cool with that for now, but do you have connections that could findme some information, without me having to owe Baxter any favours?”
“I can, but as for the favours, I’m happy to receive sexual favours in return.”
I slap his bicep, his laughter filling the car.
