“We barely got an inch. What’re you up to?” Eagle asked.
“About to play a game of pool with Puck. What’s going on?”
“Not much. A bunch of us are riding up for the party on Saturday.”
“That’s cool. Who’s coming?” Rags asked.
“Aztec, Paco, Muerto, Goldie, and Steel. Diablo and Crow might make it. Army and Chains are staying back with the others to make sure no shit happens when we’re away.”
“I was hoping to see those two. It’s been too long.”
“Saber’s riding up with us,” Eagle said.
Rags glanced at Puck and the cash on the edge of the table. “Is he coming to the party?”
“Yeah. You wanna talk to him?” Eagle said.
“I’ll catch him at the party. I got a game going.”
Eagle laughed. “He couldn’t come to the phone anyway. He’s got his face buried in Selena’s crotch.”
“Sounds like Saber.” Rags chuckled.
“I’ll let you go. We’ll see you Saturday,” Eagle said.
“Yeah. Later, bro.”
Rags slid his phone into his pocket. “Eagle and some of the Night Rebels are coming to the party Saturday.”
“It’s been a while since we all hung out,” Puck said.
“Saber’s coming with them,” Rags said, leaning over the table.
“Haven’t seen him for a couple of years. It’s gonna be a helluva turnout,” Puck said, his gaze intent on Rags’s cue.
“Yeah. It will.”
Rags broke, sending the balls scattering. Even as he focused on the game, his mind stayed on Casey. He’d made sure she wassafely tucked in her office, called the alarm guy, and set Hog in place to keep an eye on things. Casey wasn’t thrilled about it, but he wasn’t taking chances. He’d meet her for lunch, then head to work and back to her place later. He hated that Hawk wasn’t around. He wanted the license plate information now, not later. He wasn’t good at waiting.
“Your move, dude. What the hell?”
Rags blinked. “Sorry. I got shit cluttering my mind.” He glanced up and spotted Chas walking in. “Chas!”
Chas came over and bumped fists with him. “What’s up?”
“Something came up. Do you wanna finish my game?”
“You only made the break shot,” Puck said.
Chas looked at the table. “It’s a strong start. What’s riding on it?”
“Two hundred bucks,” Puck said.
“It’s tempting, but I told Addie I’d pick up Hope and Paisley from the skating rink. I don’t want them waiting around, you know?” Chas said. “I just came by to go over a few things with Banger then I gotta go.”
“This sucks,” Puck muttered.
“I owe you a game, bro,” Rags said.
