“It’s freezing out here,” Stu said over his shoulder.

Crow glanced over. “Hang on,” he said.

Waving her hand in the air, Angie said, “Go on. I have to get back inside, and it’s cold. I don’t know how you’re not freezing without a jacket.”

“I’m a tough sonofabitch.” His gaze shifted over to his friends, then back to her. “Do you want to join us?”

The question took her aback for a brief second, then she shook her head. “Thanks, but I can’t. I’m with my friends, and I’m not going to ditch them.”

Nodding, he held her gaze. “I didn’t think you would. That’s not your way, and I respect that. What about dinner sometime?”

“If I didn’t have a caseload from hell, that would be great. The backlog alone will probably keep me out of the loop until the end of the year. It’s insane.”

Slipping his hands into the pocket of his jeans, he smiled. “Another time.” He turned away and strode over to the three men waiting by the streetlight.

She watched them walk down the sidewalk and noticed several women checking out Crow, but she couldn’t blame them. The man was mighty fine, and with a self-confident swagger and a pair of jeans that molded his tight, round butt, he exuded a ton of masculine sex appeal.

A cocky smile turned up the corners of his lips when he paused and looked at her over his shoulder. She sucked in a breath.Damn! He caught me staring at his ass.Meeting his gaze, a fluttery feeling unfolded in Angie’s stomach, and she pressed her hands against it.Stop that! But the sensations kept coming. It seemed that when it came to Crow, her body acted in ways she couldn’t control.

Blowing out her breath, she could almost hear his deep chuckle as he turned away, and she watched him until he disappeared around the corner.

Another gust of cold wind swirled around her. Angie pulled her coat more tightly around herself and headed to the door. A wall of heat surrounded her as she stepped back into the bar. As she walked back to her table, she saw Coco swaying to the music with a tall, thin man, and a sad smile played across Angie’s lips.I hope you find your man, Coco.

A big part of her wanted to get to know Crow better, but she knew that would be dangerous. He was the kind of guy with whom a woman could fall madly in love. She knew how devastating it was for a woman to give everything to the man she loved only to have him trample on it. Devon had broken her heart, but if she fell in love with Crow, there was no doubt he’d shatter not only her heart but her soul too.

And there’s no way I can let that happen. No, she’d had enough heartache to last a lifetime.

Plastering a smile on her face, she walked over to her friends’ table and sat down.
