“Whatever.” Silvia turned away and looked down at her menu.

“Cueball needs help. His bike broke down near Hanson’s ranch,” Eagle said to him.

“Again? That dude needs a fuckin’ new bike,” he replied.

“That’s what I keep telling him.”

Crow motioned for Tammy to bring the bill.

“Aren’t you freaked about going to Madera Crossing with that murder happening right

across the street?” He heard Silvia say.

“A little bit. I mean, the building’s in a crappy neighborhood. It seems like there are always sketchy people around,” Angela replied.

Crow turned toward her. “Watch yourself, okay?”

The slow, beautiful smile curving her lips was a magnet pulling him in, and he craved to press his mouth against hers.

“I always do, but thanks,” she said.

Eagle picked up the bill and stood up. “We gotta go, bro.”

“Yeah.” He slid out of the booth.

“Any recommendations before you go?” Angela said.

The image of her in a lacy bra, lying on her back with her legs spread open as he slipped into her looped through his mind.

“The chicken fried steak is always a winner.”

“And the burgers?” Silvia asked.

“Good too. Everything’s spot-on here.”

“It’s funny that we bumped into each other again. We”—Angela waved her hand between Silvia and herself—“decided to grab a bite after work. Everyone at the office keeps talking about this diner, so we decided to give it a try, and … here you are.”

“Yeah … here I am.”

Crow bent over and leaned in close. The subtly sweet, spicy scent of her perfume filled his nostrils; its sexy aroma enticed him, and he wanted to press her close and feel her tits against his chest. His dick twitched as blood pooled in his groin.Fuck it.He straightened up, then ran a hand through his hair; this woman did shit to him he didn’t like.

Stepping away, Crow tapped his fingers on the table. “Enjoy your dinner.” Without waiting for a response, he turned around and walked away.

“Cueball called twice already while you were fuckin’ around with that chick. Let’s get a move on.”

Crow handed over his share of the bill and told Helen to give Tammy a tip; then, he followed Eagle out the door.

“Are you fucking her?” Eagle asked as Crow switched on the ignition.

Ignoring his friend’s question, he said, “We should swing by Skid Marks and pick up some tools. Maybe Diablo or Rooster can spare some time to help out Cueball.”

“Okay, so you’re not giving up shit on the cute chick?”

“You got it.”

Eagle snorted. “That’s a first.”

The last thing he wanted to do was talk about Angela; what he really wanted was to stop thinking about her.Focus on something else.He reached for the dashboard and cranked up the radio volume. Loud, headbanging beats from Metallica filled the car.Perfect.

Eagle took out a joint and handed it to Crow, and he put it between his lips as he sped down the road.
