CHAPTER5
Crow ploppeddown on a barstool and scooped up a handful of nuts. He’d just come back from dropping by Valerie’s place. When she’d opened the door, surprise had registered on her face at seeing him. He made up some lame excuse that he was in the neighborhood, but the truth was he was hoping to bump into Angela again.
When he walked into Valerie’s apartment, Uriah had his loser ass on the couch, and he was playing a video game while Noah sat on the other end, watching the gore and mayhem playing out on the screen. Without saying a word, Crow stomped over to the TV, switched it off, and glared at the dirtbag. Of course, Valerie rushed in to defend Uriah, but Crow didn’t give a damn, and he gave her a scathing lecture on letting Noah watch that crap at his age.
As he sat at the bar, popping cashews in his mouth, he felt like a damn pussy. It’d been a long time since he’d gone looking for a woman who piqued his interest. One of the things he liked about Angela was that she didn’t fall at his feet like most of the chicks did, especially when they found out he was in a biker club. Crow was positive she’d asked her aunt about him after he left the deli that night, and she still acted like she couldn’t care less about getting to know him better. If she didn’t blush when he checked her out or steal glances at him or fiddle with random things like her purse or iPad, he’d believe her. But the way she acted told him otherwise.
“Are you working tonight?” Army asked as he swung his leg over the barstool next to Crow.
“No, what’s up?”
“Can you cover for me tonight at Lust? I don’t want Mia going alone to Durango.”
Crow laughed. “She can kick anyone’s ass as good as we can.”
Army nodded. “I know, but I don’t like her going so far by herself. Guys mess with chicks.”
A grin spread across his face. “Remembering your single days?”
“Like you’re a fuckin’ saint.”
“I don’t have an old lady, dude.”
“Fuck, man. Can you cover for me or not?”
“Sure. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Lust. Any new dancers I should know about?”
“No one who’ll be there. There’s going to be a bachelor party, so make sure no one messes with the girls,” Army said.
“Okay, is Scorpio working?”
“Yeah, and so is Brutus. Ruger’s got the night off, so Aztec’s going to be there. Some of those dudes at the bachelor parties can be assholes, so having some extra help doesn’t hurt.”
“No worries. No one’s gonna give me shit.”
Army chuckled. “I don’t doubt that.”
Sidling up to Crow, Eagle asked, “What do you guys got going on?”
“Not much,” he replied.
“Wanna get some chow at Leroy’s?”
Army shook his head. “I can’t. I’m taking Mia to Durango.”
“What about you?” Eagle asked Crow.
“Depends on when you want to go. I’m working for Army tonight.”
“Anytime.” Eagle picked up the bottle of beer the prospect put in front of him and took a pull.
Army pushed off the stool. “I gotta head out.” He clasped Crow’s shoulder. “Thanks again, bro.”
After Army had left, Eagle turned back to Crow. “Is he afraid his old lady’s gonna mess around?”
Crow laughed. “Nah, he just knows how men are with chicks. I don’t blame him. If I had an old lady, I wouldn’t want her driving that far alone. You never know who’s gonna hit on her.”
Eagle nodded. “Yeah, like take what happened to me the other night. I’m stopped at a red light, and this cute chick keeps looking at me. I mean she’sreallygiving me the eye, you know? Then I stare right at her, and she smiles, so I motion for her to pull over, but she shakes her head. I think she’s acting hard to get, so I play along.”
