“I hear you. My mom used to do shit like that to us when my dad would sniff around whores.”
“I know parents can mess up their kids, so that’s why I put up with her shit. I don’t want Noah and Maddie having it worse than they do. I try my best.” Crow ran his hand through his hair. “What a fuckin’ mess.”
“Now get my sandwich,” Aztec said as he smacked Lila’s fleshy bottom.
Pulling up her shorts, she blew him a kiss, then swayed toward the kitchen.
“She’s got a nice pair of tits and a juicy ass,” Aztec said, his gaze fixed on her.
“And nice hair. I dig chicks with long blonde hair,” Eagle replied.
Deciding to put off texting Valerie for a bit, Crow slid the phone into his back jeans pocket.
“No comment fromyou? We’re talking about tits, ass, and hair, dude,” Aztec said.
“I’ve got other things on my mind right now.”
“Like what?” he said, motioning to the prospect for a round of drinks.
“Just a bunch of BS.”
Eagle laughed. “Or that sweet piece we ran into at Leroy’s? How’d you make out with her?”
“What sweet piece? I didn’t know about that.” Aztec lifted the beer bottle Vegas just put in front of him.
“There’s nothing to know,” Crow said, bringing a shot of tequila to his mouth.
“Bullshit,” Eagle said.
“Here you go, baby.” Lila set the plate in front of Aztec. She turned her gaze on them. “Do you guys want me to fix you something to eat?”
Shaking his head, Eagle said, I’m good.”
Crow nodded. “Me too, but thanks.”
Aztec yanked her down to him and kissed her, then lightly pushed her away. “Thanks.”
Giggling, she squeezed his shoulder, then went back over to the couch.
Taking a bite out of his sandwich, Aztec chewed for a second and looked at Eagle. “So you’re saying thereissome shit going on between Crow and this sweet butt?”
Crow bristled. “She’s not a ‘sweet butt’or a ‘sweet piece.’ She’s a smart, professional woman.” The tone of his voice came out harsher than he wanted.
Both men stared at him, then busted out in loud laughter.
“Fuck off,” he said, looking away.
“No, dude, I get it, really. She looked like a nice lady, so yeah, I get it,” Eagle said, the laughter still evident in his voice.
“It’s just that you haven’t said anything like that about a chick since your ex, you know?” Aztec added.
Crow shifted his gaze back to them. “Don’t mentionhername.”
A serious look replaced the smirk on Aztec’s face. “Sorry, dude—I didn’t mean to bring up that shit.” He picked up his sandwich and took a bite. The noise of him chewing was the only sound at the table.
“Are you working tonight?” Eagle asked, breaking the tension.
“No,” Crow replied.
