“Give me a shot of tequila.” He walked over to Angie. “What do you want to drink?”

She glanced up from the phone. “A diet coke with no ice, please.”

Muerto put the shot in front of Crow and a glass with the soda can in front of Angie. “Anything else?” he asked.

“We’re good,” Crow said.

When Muerto walked away, Angie gripped Crow’s hand. “Why didn’t you introduce me to your friend?”

“That’s not the way we do things.”

“Well, it’s the way I do things. It makes me feel like I’m just one of your girls … or am I?”

“Are you what?”

“Just another one of the women you hang with.”

“I’m not hanging with any other woman.”

“I know that. I mean, am I more important to you or just someone casual?”

Crow set down the empty shot glass. “What the fuck are you saying? You know you’re important to me, and what we have isn’t casual. I introduced you to Josh, Benny, and Stu because they’re citizens, and that’s the way it is in that world. It’s not the same in the MC world.”

“Whatever.” Angie turned away and stared down at her phone.

“Now you’re pissed.”

“I’m not,” she said without looking up.

An exasperated sigh blew through his lips. “Sometimes, woman …” He motioned for Muerto to come over.

“Need another shot?”

“Nah.”

“Then what’s up?”

Crow cleared his throat. “This is Angie.” He curled an arm around her. “And this is Muerto.”

A huge smile lit up her face. “Nice to meet you.”

“Yeah.” A confused look flashed across Muerto’s face. He glanced at Crow. “Anything else?”

“Nah.”

Muerto nodded, then walked away.

“Satisfied?”

“Okay, so you were right. It’s just—”

“What was that? I waswhat?”

Pursing her lips, she folded her arms across her chest. “Right. There are so many rules and nuances with your club, and I don’t get most of them.”

“You don’t have to. Just follow my lead, and all will be good.” He gave her a little kiss.

“I hope so. I have to take off.”
