Chas and Jax joined the duo. “What’s up with you? Baylee still keeping you in line?” Chas asked, chuckling.
Axe’s jaw clenched. “No woman keeps me in line.”
Jax slapped his hand on his buddy’s shoulder. “Yeah, right.”
“Women have a knack of getting what they want from us, but letting us think it was our idea and we’re in charge. Fuck, Addie does that to me a lot. I can’t figure out how she does it.” Chas took a pull on his beer.
Axe laughed. “Baylee too. Fuck, we’re screwed.” He turned back to Jerry. “You got someone?”
Jerry choked on his beer. “What the fuck?”
“Where were you last weekend?”
“Here. I was busy with one of my inventions, and I had shit to do for Wanda.”
“Really?” Axe cocked up one eyebrow.
Jax grinned. “You know something. I’m gonna guess everything Jerry just said was a crock of shit. Am I right?”
Jerry scowled while Chas and Jax guffawed. “You’re fuckin’right, man,” Chas said.
“So, you weren’t in Crested Peak?” Axe said as he brought the beer bottle to his lips.
Jerry froze. How the fuck does he know?He didn’t look at his brothers, just continued drinking and staring at the back wall.
“You pleading the Fifth, dude?” Axe nudged him in his side. “I don’t give a shit where you were. I just want to know who the blonde was you were with. A charter brother in Crested Peak told me he was at a Mexican restaurant on Friday night, and you were with a knockout with a great rack.”
Jerry turned and stared at him icily.
Jax pretended to look somber, but the corners of his mouth kept twitching upward. “Looks like you’ve been found out. Time for you to confess. Who’s the woman, and why are you keeping her hidden?”
“She must fuck real good if you’re willing to drive four hours for it when you got it only a few steps away here. You didn’t even drop by the charter club. Did you fuck her all weekend?” Axe asked, his eyes twinkling.
“Hey, guys, isn’t that where Kylie goes to college?” Chas smirked.
Jerry cracked his neck from side to side then slammed his beer bottle down on the bar, the sound making a few brothers look his way. “Fuck off. Do I have to report everything I do to you? Stay outta my personal life.” He shoved Chas aside and began to leave when Jax and Axe grabbed him and pulled him back.
No longer joking, Chas said in a hushed tone, “Are you fuckin’ crazy? Kylie?”
“You’re fooling around with Banger’s daughter? Do you have a goddamned death wish?” Jax chimed in.
Jerry jerked out of their grasp and scrubbed his face with his fist. “Kylie and I are the only ones who know. And now you guys, but I can trust you.”
Axe whistled low and shook his head. “Bro, you’re a fuckin’ dumbass if you think this shit you’re doing with Kylie is gonna stay in Crested Peak. And thinking Banger’s not gonna find out? Well, that’s just stupid.”
“You need to cut if off now before anyone gets hurt. Think with your brains, not your dick. Fuck Lola, she’s got blonde hair. Damn, you owe respect to your president.” Chas stared hard at him while the other two nodded in agreement.
Jerry nodded. He knew they were right, and he also knew the one who would be hurt the most was Kylie. He was in over his head. If he broke it off with her right then, she’d be hurt, but he couldn’t treat her like a slut. For God’s sakes, she’d been a fucking virgin, andhe’dpopped her cherry. How would she feel if he never touched her again? How wouldhefeel? He’d had feelings for her since she was sixteen. Every time he fucked a blonde, he pretended it was her.
I’m so damn mixed up. I never should have touched her.
Relationships weren’t for him. A nice girl like her didn’t just give herself to any man, and when shedidgive herself, she expected a loving, traditional relationship. It was something he couldn’t give her. Banger was right—he was the worst guy for her. The last thing he wanted was to be tied down, let alone endure the fireworks that went along with dating Banger’s daughter.
“So, you gonna break this shit off?” Axe asked, snapping Jerry back to the conversation.
He blew out a deep breath. “Yeah. You guys are right. I fuckin’ lost my head.”
Jax grasped his shoulder. “Women have a knack of making us do that.” He gestured to Puck to bring another round.
