Was he being deeply, openly honest with everything he said to me?
This isn’t a game, and I’m not cheating.
I’ve never been so drawn to someone in my life.
We ate at the island while Shayla did most of the talking; she was obviously excited about her dance rehearsals, learning the choreography for the video. Johnny had made us egg white omelettes, which were just as good as his stir fry, along with a freshly blended berry and yogurt smoothie.
But then he up and left, before we’d even finished our smoothies. He said he had “a lot of shit” to do today and took his smoothie with him, wishing us both a great day before vanishing out the back door.
“Well, that was nice,” I said to Shayla once we were alone. “Your brother coming over here to make breakfast.”
“Oh. Yeah, he does that sometimes.” She eyed me with amusement. “Maybe your niceness coaching is rubbing off?” I’d told her I was taking Johnny to dinner with my parents last night, because I wanted to teach him how to be nicer to people and he needed to practice on some easy targets.
She’d laughed hysterically.
I mean, it was pretty ridiculous, for various reasons.
Although the outcome was… incredible.
“I didn’t know there were security cams all over your house,” I said casually as she finished her smoothie.
“What?”
“Johnny mentioned there are cameras all over the house. I think he meant your house and his?”
“Oh. Yeah. There are more in his. He’s freakish about security, as you know.”
I did know, kind of. He had a live-in bodyguard, for one. Even my sister didn’t have Flynn live right on her property or even in her neighborhood, and she was way more famous.
“So… the camera feeds go to Lamar?”
“Ew. No.” Shayla winced dramatically. “You think Lamar wants to watch whatever’s going down in Johnny’s house? It goes to Johnny’s phone.”
“So… everything that happens in your house goes to your brother’s phone too?”
She cackled. “Oh my God. Are you kidding? Can you imagine?”
“Oh. Uh, good.” I laughed nervously. “That’s what I thought. Just wanted to be sure.”
“No.There’s only a cam at my front door and back door. Johnny has one in like every room of his house. I half think it’s for purposes other than security, you know what I mean?” She hiked up a brow and went to put her dishes in the dishwasher.
“Right…” I got up to help her clean up.
Once Shayla headed out to rehearsals, I went up to my room, where I worked on my laptop with the window open. Since my room faced Johnny’s house, I’d learned that I could hear the Hellcat coming and going from my window.
About a half hour later, I heard it pulling out of his garage.
When I went to the window, I could see the car easing up to the gate. It turned right onto the street and I glimpsed Johnny in the passenger seat, which meant Lamar was driving.
I still wasn’t totally sure what Johnny did with his days. I knew he did MMA training with Shane, though I had no idea how often. Shayla had also mentioned at some point that Johnny had a personal trainer and a voice coach, though I had no idea if those people did house calls or what. He might have a meeting with Yash. Now that Noah was back in town, he might be meeting up with him again.
Other than that… no clue.
I didn’t like sitting around wondering. I knew this wasn’t a professional curiosity, either. It felt grossly girlfriend-like, my desire to know where he was going, what he’d be doing and with whom.
And what he was thinking.
It didn’t escape me that while I’d become utterly preoccupied with thoughts of Johnny… I’d completely stopped thinking about Flynn.
