“Mortifying.”
“But here you are. Owning up to it. You could’ve just pretended it never happened.”
“Oh, but it did. And I’m sure it’s hard to forget.”
Yeah. Especially since I still had it on my phone, looked at it daily and jacked off to it almost as often.
“Why didn’t you tell Ash about it?” I asked her.
“Because I was embarrassed. And… I didn’t want him to be pissed off at you.”
“Why would he be pissed off at me?”
She studied me in silence for a long moment, not answering that.
“How much do you love my husband?” she asked me, softly.
Damn, she was strong.
I had so much respect for her, I didn’t even know what to say except to be honest with her. But I couldn’t seem to get the words out.
“You really don’t know the answer to that?” I said instead.
“I know. I just wondered if you’d tell me. I feel like I have a right to ask.”
“You do.”
She was silent for a moment, waiting for me to say more on the subject.
I didn’t.
“Are you bisexual, Matt? Ash says so, but I only ever see you with women. Or is Ash the only guy you’ve ever…”
“He’s not the only guy I’ve ever.” I took a breath and just told her already. “Some people like girls, some people like guys, some people like both girls and guys. I like couples.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.” I glanced at her, and I could see her chewing on that. She looked cute as hell when she was stumped by something. “What?”
“I’m sorry. I just… I didn’t even know that was a thing.”
“Well, I can tell you, it is.”
“Wow,” she breathed. “Learn something new every day, huh?”
I smiled a little. It was impossible not to be charmed by Danica Vola and her unassuming sweetness. “Aren’t you gonna ask me why?”
“No.” She frowned a little. “Why would I ask you why? That’s like asking Ash why he likes both men and women, or why I like men. You just do, right?”
“Right.”
Shit, with every word she said I just loved her more.
Anyone could see why Ash fell for her. But why he married her, protected what they had… it became clearer every time I was around her. Danica was special. What they had together was special. So special that he trusted her to have conversations like this one with me, probably, and she knew it.
“So, for you, just guys?” I asked her.
“Yeah.”
