She said nothing.

“Are you pretending to be asleep?”

She sighed. “What were you planning to do, just keep asking until you woke me up?”

“Probably.”

“Why?”

“I need to say something.”

“So? Say it. It’s late, Dane.”

“I want to touch you.”

“You said that already.”

“Yeah. My dick was in your mouth. So I thought maybe you didn’t take me seriously.”

She didn’t say anything to that.

“I want to make you come,” I said, my voice kind of gravelly.

She stirred a bit. “I don’t need to come.”

“I didn’t ask you if you need to come. I said I want to make you.”

“I’m sure you do,” she said, a little sharpness in her voice.

“This isn’t about winning some battle.”

“Isn’t it?”

I considered that. “Is everything a battle to you?”

“Nope. It’s a battle when an enemy wages war.”

“Even when he marries you?”

“Still enemies.”

“Enemies can call a truce.”

“What kind of truce?”

“You know.” I stripped it right down to the basics, because clearly she was trying to make this more complicated than it was. “I touch you where it feels good and you let yourself enjoy it.”

She stirred again. “Why would I do that?” she said, but she sounded unsure. Her voice was changing. Getting softer.

“Because it feels good.”

“I meant, why would I do that with you?”

“Other than the obvious? You’re in bed with me right now? I’m your husband? I’m offering, and you have nothing to lose?”

She made an annoyed sound, likeRight. “I don’t trust you.”

“I know. But this isn’t some trick. You did for me, I want to do for you. That’s usually how it goes when couples have sex.”
