She reached into her closet, pulling out black leather and handing it to me. “This one should fit you. You can have it. Did you like the bike?”

I nodded, taking the jacket from her and brushing my fingers along the leather. “It was different. I was too angry at you to fully enjoy it.”

“Well, we will get the full use out of it today.”

“Is that why you always wear leather? Is it the stereotypical biker attire?”

“No. I wear leather because I look hot in it.” My cheeks burned. “I embrace my body, Kadence, and I like seeing you get flustered when you see me in it.”

“Have you ever had sex on your bike? Is that possible?”

She smirked. “Oh, it’s possible. There’s a couple ways I could do it.”

“Elaborate.”

She took my hand, pulling me from her bedroom. “You’ll just have to stick around to find out.”

CHAPTER 25

BLAIZE

Kadence tensed when we walked into the entrance of the hospital, and her steps faltered. I grabbed her and pulled her into me as she buried her head into my chest, taking a shaky breath. We stayed like this until her breathing became more even, but I let her take what strength she needed from me. I wasn’t going to press her. If she wanted to tell me what happened, why the hospital made her panic, then she would tell me. I wanted to know so I could comfort her, but the way she sank into me told me it was enough.

She pulled back and wiped her eyes. “I’m sorry,” she stuttered out. “I haven’t been in a hospital since after I was…” I wrapped my arms tighter around her. “I didn’t think it would be a trigger for me.”

I kissed her head. “We can leave if you need to. I’ll come by later when you’re in bed.”

She shook her head, straightening her spine slightly. “No. I want to be here for Hawke. I can let go of my fear. I’m not in New York. I’m with you.”

I gave her a soft smile and took her hand as I directed her to the nearest elevator. She melted into my touch as we stayed silent until we got to the ICU floor. I grasped her hand in mine asI guided her to Fallon’s hospital room. Hawke had Fallon’s hand in his, resting his head on their conjoined hands, mumbling. He was waiting on a miracle, and I hoped his prayers would work to bring Fallon back to him.

He peeked his eyes up and smiled at Kadence. “Hey, kid.”

“H-hi,” Kadence stuttered. I was unsure if she was still angry at Hawke or not.

“Glad to see the two of you talkin’ again.”

“We are working on our issues,” she told him. “I haven’t fully forgiven her for what happened, but there’s no reason to be angry. I love her, and there’s no denying that. She’s the best one to protect me when someone wants to kill me.”

He arched his brow. “Uh, I didn’t tell him, princess,” Blaize said.

“What do you mean someone tried tokill you?” he asked, concern washing over his face.

“She was attacked at the pier two nights ago. Her assailant cut her throat.”

“Blaize, why didn’t you tell me?”

“You have other things to worry about. I had the Reapers out there with her until I got there, and Hunter is working on finding clues.”

“How is Fallon?” Kadence asked, not wanting to be the center of attention. She didn’t realize that was exactly what she was going to be from here on out.

He let out a long sigh, kissing Fallon’s hand. “She’s fightin’ hard. She’s coded twice since being here, but she’s been stable the last few days and her heart is functioning. They're gonna take her off the vent this afternoon to see if she breathes on her own.”

“She’s a fighter,” I reassured him. “She’ll pull through.”

He pressed his lips together. “I want to believe that, but the bullet was meant to kill her. Do we have anything on this bastard? I want my turn when you find him.”

“Not yet, but Damon is scouring through footage. It happened on his territory, and he is pissed. I will keep you updated every minute.”
