“Areyouready?”

He grinned against her lips. “Kels. I’ve been ready.”

She smiled and clung to him tighter, her chest pressed tight against him, and he held back, holding on while he waited for her. But he didn’t have to wait long. Her breathing quickened, she gasped, soft murmurs demanding him to continue, to give it to her harder, deeper, until finally, at last, she fell completely apart, shattered, in the best and most unbelievable way possible. And right before his eyes. He reveled in it. He soaked up every second of it. And as a lazy smile spread across her lips, he wanted to do it again. And again.

So they did.

Now in bed, they cuddled in close underneath the warmth of the covers, her wrapped in his arms, her head against his chest. He twirled circles with his fingertip against the bare skin of her arm. Her breathing slowed and he inhaled her scent. Clean from the bath but also his odor on her. The thought only made him want her again. It made him feel clingy and needy.

Davis had to push away the worry that while he was in this relationship one hundred percent, she might not be. He was the first person she’d slept with since Ricky. What if he was the in-between guy? The one before the next serious relationship? Imagining her with someone else caused his skin to heat. He had to know if she was all in or not. Before he drove himself insane with fear.

Awakeningto the still pitch blackness of the night, Kelsey nudging him until his eyes opened fully was not his idea of a good morning. But then he caught the panic of her expression in the slice of light from the moon shining into the room.

“What’s wrong?” He sat up, scrubbing a hand over his face.

“You need to go.” She scurried off the bed, rushing around.

“Now?” He checked the time on his phone that laid on the nightstand. “But it’s barely five in the morning.”

She tossed his clothes at him. “I know. I’m sorry. But the baby will be up soon which means the other two will be soon to follow. You shouldn’t be here when they get up.”

“Oh, right.” If she’d started with that, maybe he wouldn’t have been so concerned she was filled with regret after their night together.

“Hurry,” she whispered.

He slid out of the bed, half asleep and stepped into his cold jeans, a shiver jolting through him.

She flipped on the nightstand lamp, exposing her still naked body. As she raced toward the closet, he got the perfect view of her bare backside.

Okay, he was wide awake now.

As he yanked his t-shirt over his head and stuffed his arms into his jacket, he checked her out while she stepped into a pair of shorts and pulled on a sweatshirt.

She spun around to face him. Oops. Caught.

“Ready?”

“Almost. Sorry, I was busy enjoying the view.”

A smile tugged at the corner of her mouth as she dipped her chin. “There’s no time for gawking. You have to get out. Now.” She went to him and shoved him in the back, steering him in the direction of the bedroom door.

He tiptoed down the stairs in his stocking feet, snatching his boots off the floor. She didn’t wait for him to put them on, she opened the front door and shoved him out. The crisp early morning fall air stung his skin.

But she wouldn’t get rid of him that easy. He whirled around, dropping the boots to the dewy porch. He grabbed her backside, one delicious cheek fitting perfectly in each palm, and lifted her up. She wrapped her legs around him and he brought his mouth to hers, giving her a kiss he was hoping she wouldn’t forget anytime soon.

He returned her to her feet, pressing one more kiss to her lips before picking up his boots and crunching through the leaves toward his truck, an extra bounce to his step.

CHAPTERTWENTY-FIVE

KELSEY

Wakingup next to the hard, and very male body hadn’t been on Kelsey’s agenda today, but it sure wasn’t terrible. Yet imagining the shock on her kids’ faces meant she couldn’t enjoy the view for long. When she first got a glimpse of his firm pec so close to her cheek she dared to move, worried if she did, she’d wake up from this dream. Because her and Davis spending the night together, after the hottest bathtub sex she’d ever experienced, surely had to be a dream.

She and Davis were best friends. They didn’t sleep together. Not intimately anyway. And they definitely didn’t take baths together. Or have bathtub sex. Nope. She was sure she’d dreamt the entire affair.

Except it hadn’t been a dream.
