“I know.” He smiled.
The way she gazed at him, studying him while he pushed the fork through the moist cake again, caused his skin to tingle with heat. He could feel her hunger for his cake, or was it hunger for him, he couldn’t be sure. Oh hell, he hoped it was for him.
All he knew for sure was, this moment stretching between them was so incredibly intimate and hot. It was a damn good thing there was a table in between them. As the seconds ticked by, it became increasingly more difficult to keep his hands to himself.
With her intense gaze unwavering from him, he held the fork out for her. She took her time leaning in, giving him a peek at the glorious dip of her cleavage. The cake dangled only mere inches away and a coy smile played on her beautiful mouth.
At last, she finally closed her lips around the fork, and desire shot through him in an instant, heading south. As her eyes fluttered closed in pleasure, he craved for the chance to satisfy her in the way this cake clearly was. Davis never thought food, or eating could be sexual, but as he fed her the bite of cake, it was hotter than the most delectable foreplay he’d ever experienced.
As she pulled away agonizingly slow, he sucked in a breath. When she eventually opened her eyes, she caught him staring at her, but he didn’t look away. Instead, he allowed the lust to burn between them in their held gaze.
“What did I tell you,” Rita said, drawing them out of their private moment and they both whipped their heads in her direction. “This is gonna be the most magical season for you.” She winked at him again and hugged her daughter’s shoulders from behind before shuffling away as fast as she’d arrived.
They looked at one another, Kelsey’s cheeks a bright pink and his face as hot as an August sunburn, and they shared a knowing smile.
A smile that said, this thing is going to happen. And it better be sooner than later.
CHAPTERFIFTEEN
KELSEY
Even if thetourists were obnoxious, Kelsey didn’t mind. Because it meant business. And the extra business meant it would make O’Henry’s sound more appealing to a potential partner. Not that she wanted a partner. But it would sure make it easier to shoulder not only help financially but some of the responsibilities as well.
Getting an attorney would be pointless. That’s what she’d been told anyway by the attorney she’d met with in Denver. She had no grounds for anything legal as far as Ricky’s death was concerned. She hadn’t stayed current on the payments, the bank had every right to shut her down, sell, and take back the money that was rightfully theirs.
“Excuse me, miss?”
Kelsey glanced over her shoulder as she filled a glass of Tapp’s Brewery pumpkin beer. An attractive man dressed in a navy-blue long-sleeved button-down Henley stood pressed against the bar, a crooked smile directed at her. She’d never seen him in O’Henry’s before.
Another tourist. She resisted an eye roll.
“What can I get ya?”
“How’s the pumpkin beer?”
“Depends.” She set the beer down in front of a woman.
“On?”
“How much you like pumpkin.”
“Hmm…” He considered this but didn’t check the chalkboard over her head for further choices. Instead, he continued to watch her curiously and smile.
Her cheeks burned from the examination of the tourist. She filled a taster with the local pumpkin brew and set it in front of him.
“Taste it and let me know if it’s worth a full glass.”
“A pintisa big commitment.”
“A man who takes his beer seriously, I approve.” She smiled.
He sipped it before letting out a satisfied sigh. “Sold. I’ll take a pint.”
“You got it…coming right up.”
She felt his eyes trained on her again while she filled the glass and set it before him.
“Thanks…you got a name?”
