I drew in a deep breath, exhaled slowly. He took a step closer, ran his thumb over my lower lip, and leaned in. I wanted him to kiss me, for him to slake this lust, but I could feel his restraint. He was holding back.

A knock sounded on the office door and Knox’s hand fell to his side as he took a step back. “Come in.”

“Sir, Miss Campbell is waiting for you. Would you like me to tell her you’re busy?”

I felt the snap of Knox’s temper even as I felt my own ire rising.

“Miss Campbell should never wait,” Knox bit out, his words like a slap.

“I’m sorry, sir,” she said quickly, backing out of the doorway.

A moment later, Emily appeared, her eyes instantly taking in the office, the view of the Vegas Strip, then finally landing on me and Knox.

“Are you hungry?” I asked, knowing it was dangerous for the three of us to be closed in this room.

Her hand went to her stomach and she grinned. “Starving.”

Knox cut his gaze to me and I nodded, letting him know I was game for whatever he had in mind.

When it came to Knox, admittedly, I was pretty easy.

“So what is it you envision asmy role in all of this?” I asked, gesturing to widely encompass the hotel we were in.

Knox had called down to find out if any of the restaurants’ chefs were in and learned that two were. He gave me an option between sushi and Italian. I opted for Italian and having just experienced the wonder ofDiNozzo’sphenomenal cuisine, I could honestly say this place was going to be busy when it officially opened to the public.

I’d even had the opportunity of meeting the head chef, Mattia DiNozzo. Within the first minute of making his acquaintance, I realized not only was he a food connoisseur, he was also a pleasure to interact with. The patrons were going to love him.

The restaurants alone were going to be hot spots.

“I figure you’ll make your own place,” Knox answered, sipping from his wineglass. “But you’ll be able to keep your finger on the pulse of all of it once you’ve hired the right team to support you.”

“Team?”

Kieran chuckled. “You don’t think we do this in a vacuum, do you?”

Honestly, I had. Knox and Kieran both seemed so in control it didn’t dawn on me that they would lean on others to keep things running smoothly. What little I knew about business, I’d picked up from conversations I’d overheard between Rhett and Kitty. My father had always run a very lean crew, insisting he had his hand in everything. According to Kitty, it was better that way because, if you wanted something done right, you had to do it yourself.

“A solid management team is crucial, and assistants are a must,” Kieran added.

I took a sip of the Moscato Kieran had ordered for me. “Plural?”

“If you can do it with one, you’re a better person than I am,” Kieran said with a grin.

I looked at Knox, saw he was watching me. “And I can hire anyone?”

“You’re in charge,” he said simply.

“I wonder what I’ll want his qualifications to be,” I mused, pretending to consider it. “Smart … loyal…” I held Knox’s stare. “Muscular.”

A soft growl escaped him, and it ignited an electric spark in my spine. I smiled, ensuring he saw I was joking. I figured there was no reason to purposely incite the beast.

“I haven’t seen your assistants,” I said, peering back at Kieran.

“Some people like to have someone at their side. I don’t.” Kieran nodded in Knox’s direction. “Nor does he.”
