“It’s stunning,” I said honestly. “It captivated me from the moment I stepped inside.”
He looked away, still grinning. “That was my design.”
Not only does he have good looks but he’s got mad skills.
“Does Knox help you run it?”
Kieran’s smile widened. “Steph runs it. I assist where I can. Knox is more of a silent partner.”
“Steph?”
“My sister. Hannah’s wife.”
I swallowed. “How … uh … long have they been married?”
“About six months.”
I was curious as to how long they’d dated before then, when had they met, who had introduced them, but I stopped the line of questioning because it seemed too personal. There was a niggling at the back of my mind, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I shoved it down for now.
“Is this the only club you and Knox own?”
“We own three: Obsession, Rapture, and Euphoria.”
“Interesting names,” I offered. “Is it a theme?”
His blue eyes remained on my face. “You could say that.”
I was about to ask him to elaborate when the door opened, drawing our attention to the man who filled the doorway with not only his physical being but his commanding presence. Knox was the sort of man who demanded attention without saying a word, and as had always been the case, I wasn’t immune to his superpowers.
Knox stepped inside, closing the door behind him even as his gaze swung from me to Kieran to my feet resting in Kieran’s lap then back to Kieran’s face. Neither of them said anything, but I got the feeling they were having a conversation.
“Is the doctor here?” I asked, frustrated that I was left out.
Knox’s gaze shifted to me. “Not yet.”
“I think it’d be best to take her to the penthouse,” Kieran stated. “Get her comfortable until he arrives.”
“Um … no, thank you,” I countered, pulling my feet from Kieran’s lap and lowering them to the floor. “I think I’ll just go home.”
Both men were watching me intently, so I pushed to my feet, balancing on my good leg. If I could walk out under my own steam, they would have no recourse and I would be home free.
I fidgeted longer than I should have, smoothing my dress, my hair, fixing the bangle bracelets on my wrist. And when I finally took that step…
“Goddammit,” Knox bit out, lunging forward to keep me from crumpling to the floor.
In a move that looked effortless, Knox swung me back up into his arms, his face stony. “I wish you’d stop doing that.”
“I wish you’d stop rescuing me,” I countered hotly.
“I’ll take her to the penthouse,” Knox told Kieran. “Once I get her settled, I’ll come back.”
Kieran got to his feet. “Don’t bother. I’ve got it covered.” He stepped closer, his fingertip brushing my cheek. “I’ll stop by to check on you later.”
I was about to tell him it wasn’t necessary, but Kieran leaned in and pressed his lips to mine in the sweetest kiss I’d ever known. He didn’t pull away immediately, nor did I, and I wondered if that was what spurred the deep rumble in Knox’s chest.
Was he jealous?
And more importantly, why did I hope he was?
