Her face was a mess, swollen and bruised, her lip split, and her eye turning a gnarly shade of black.

And I knew—I fuckingknew—who’d done this.

Ma burst through the door about five minutes later with Doc right behind her. Dash, Danger, and Jekyll brought up the rear, their faces going hard when they saw Harmony.

“Jesus Christ,” Dash muttered, his fingers locking behind his head. “What the fuck happened?”

“I know that motherfucker did this,” I growled as Doc dropped to his knees beside me, pulling out smelling salts from his kit. He waved them under Harmony’s nose, and her head jerked back.

Her eyes flew open, wild with terror, darting around the room like she didn’t know where she was, then they landed on my face.

And she started crying.

Her hands clutched at my cut, trembling so hard I could feel it through the leather.

“Hey, hey, you’re okay.” I cupped her bruised face as gently as I could. “I’ve got you, baby. You’re safe.”

“Wade,” she sobbed, the sound breaking something inside me.

“What happened, baby?” I asked softly, desperate to know who I was going to kill, but not wanting to upset her more. “Who did this to you?”

I already knew, but I needed her to say the words. I needed confirmation.

Her eyes closed. “Reggie. He was in my kitchen when I came downstairs. He… he went crazy.”

My vision narrowed to a red pinpoint.

“I’m going to end him.”

As carefully as I could, I transferred Harmony to Doc’s arms. “Get her back to the clubhouse,” I told him. “Get her settled in my room.”

“Son—” Ma started.

“No,” I rumbled.

Ma’s mouth snapped shut. She knew there was no stopping what was about to happen. She knew with the position I now held that I couldn’t let this transgression slide. I couldn’t afford to look weak.

Harmony grabbed my wrist, her eyes as big as saucers. “Please, Wade, please. Don’t do this. You don’t know him.“

Looking down at the fear in her blue eyes, I shook my head. “I’ll be back soon, baby. I promise.”

Pulling her hand away, I dropped a kiss on her forehead and headed for the door. I had to go. If I didn’t, I would end up staying, and that wouldn’t be best for her or my club.

Whether she understood the magnitude of what went down between us last night or not, she was my girl now. And that meant I had to take a stand; had to send a message nobody would ever misunderstand.

I wasn’t surprised when Dash, Danger, and Jekyll fell in behind me without a word.

They knew what had to happen.

“Wooohooo. Time to go huntin’, boys,” I heard Jekyll chant as I hopped into the cab of my truck.

Throwing my truck into reverse, I tore out of Harmony’s driveway, gravel spitting from under my tires with Jekyll, Dash, and Danger right behind me on their sleds.

As I tore through town, all I could see was Harmony’s face. How anyone, especially the man who once vowed before god to protect her, could ever lay a hand on someone like her was beyond me.

I pulled up to the stop sign and rolled down my window.

“Think he went into hiding?” Danger asked, pulling up beside me.
