I smiled and watched him walk out of his room, dick swinging as he walked.

It took a few minutes, but when he came back, he had my phone in his hand.

“It says it’s your mom.”

I exhaled. “I need to pick up. I haven’t talked to her with the time change.”

I quickly answer.

“Hey, Ma, what are you doing?”

There was a pause on the line.

“Ma, are you there?” I asked, getting worried because she wasn’t responding.

“Islah..” she said low. “Are you okay?”

I looked at Love and placed the call on speaker.

“Yeah, Ma, I’m good. What’s wrong?”

She paused again.

“Baby, Gio came over here,” my heart started to race. “He looked mad, and—I—I I’m sorry, Islah, I had to tell him.”

My heart started beating faster.

“Ma, what do you mean you had to tell him?”

The line went silent for a second, then I heard her crying.

“He held a gun to me, Islah. I had to tell him where you are.”

I damn near passed out right there on the bed beside Love.

“Ummm… okay, Ma,” I said, not wanting to alarm her. “It is okay, let me call you later… I love you, Mom.”

I hung up with her and stared at my phone.

“You okay?” Love asked.

I shook my head.

“No, Gio is not supposed to know where I am. Ma talking ‘bout he looks mad?—”

He tilted his head, looking at me.

“Man, I need you to be straight with me,” he said, with a tone I only heard when he had his hand around his baby mama’s neck.

“What the fuck is buddy’s issue?”

I hopped out of bed and paced the floor.

“I don’t know. He wants me, he didn’t want me to leave him. He thought that I was supposed to forgive him after I found out he cheated, and I won’t.”

Love nodded. “Do you still love him?”

I paused, I didn’t know how to answer, I didn’t want to lose Love.
