I dug my fingers into his shirt, clinging to him. “You saved me.” They were the only words that made sense.

His eyes teared before he kissed me. “I’m never letting you go,” he whispered. “Never.”

I slid deeper into myself, exhaustion hovering at the surface. But I didn’t want to pass out. I didn’t want to sleep. Losing consciousness was too terrifying and too close to never waking up.

“We’re going to take you to get checked out at the hospital, and then home. You are safe.”

There was commotion and movement around me, but it felt like I was still and the rest of the world moved around me. That was okay. It could pass me by right now.

Brooks held me while they guided the helicopter to land on the deck and bundled me inside. Logan kept his arm around me so I could lean on his shoulder. I had so much to say, and now that I was free to say it, I couldn’t.

I didn’t know how to come back from this. From knowing it was the end and being snatched back from the edge. I was a different person than I’d been this morning. And I didn’t feel settled—I still felt sick.

Theo sat on my other side and gently placed the helicopter’s headphones over my ears. “You can rest.”

I shook my head. No. If I closed my eyes?—

“We’re not taking our eyes off you, wildfire. Nothing is going to happen to you. Not while we’re here.” Logan spoke softly and began to purr. “Promise.”

I believed them. They came for me. And I had nothing left to give.

CHAPTER SIXTY

_____________

TRINITY

Ididn’t know where I was. There was beeping and strange noises, and I had no idea?—

Not again.

This time I didn’t wait for caution. I opened my eyes andmoved, springing for the first door I saw. Get out, get out,get out.

Arms came around my waist and I fought them. They weren’t going to take me again. “Trinity.Stop.”

The Alpha bark stopped me in my tracks. I knew that voice. The scent of smoky vanilla. “Brooks?”

“Yeah, baby. It’s me. We’re at the hospital.”

I whined, curling in on myself. Those same arms lifted and carried me back, setting me gently on the bed. There was a tube in my arm. Good thing he caught me before I ripped it out.

Everything from before came filtering in. It had been so, so close.

Brooks hovered over me when he set me down. Logan sat behind him, leaning forward, within touching distance. No one else was in the room. My other Alphas— “Where are they? Are they okay? What happened?”

Hands framed my face, dark green eyes locking with mine. “Everyone is fine. Aiden, Theo, and Bastian are speaking to the authorities. They’ll be back as soon as they can.”

Logan caught my eye. “They’ll be pissed they weren’t here when you woke up.”

I held onto Brooks’s forearms, shivering. How did I crack through the panic that felt like a whirlwind in my chest? The beeping—now I knew it was the heart monitor—went way too fast.

They must have been so out of their minds if I was panicked like this. Tears flooded my eyes. “I’m sorry.”

Brooks frowned. “Why are you sorry, baby?”

“You must have been terrified, and if I hadn’t looked into the story I would never?—”

He leaned forward and kissed me. The softest, warmest kiss I could remember. It flipped my insides and made megooey. Calmed my instincts enough to take a full breath.
