release her as soon as she’s standing.

So fucking inconvenient.

She picks her apple up off her desk and takes another bite. Chewing as she looks at me…I think.

“Can you take…those off?” I ask, pointing at her face. She frowns, patting her face until she hits

the glasses.

“Oops, yeah.”

Her rich brown eyes meet mine, no hint of embarrassment left on her face. The slight flush is still

in her cheeks, though. Does that mean she’s good at masking it? Or is she used to little collisions like

this? I stand there for too long, waiting for her to say…something. The dawning realization comes

over me that she seems perfectly content to stand here, not speaking, just staring at me. And now I feel

like a creepy fucker. Shouldn’t she be trying to impress me or some shit? I am her boss, after all.

Besides that, women are always trying to impress me.

I crack first. “If you’re finished with your lunch, we can head down to the marketing department.”

“I’m ready boss, let’s go,” she says cheerily, waving me forward. She doesn’t put down the apple,

happily munching as we walk down the hallway. Just before we get to Declan’s office, his door

opens, and a flushed Cara strolls out, followed by my brother.

“Is he your boyfriend, or your side piece?” Maya asks casually. Declan chokes, and Cara laughs

brightly.

“You’ll find out at supper tonight,” she says with a wink. We all turn and watch her walk away,

hips swaying, her husky laugh carrying back to us.

“She’s a very interesting woman. I think I like her.” Maya turns to Declan. “I don’t think we’ve

met yet. I’m Maya.”

Declan, cheeks red from being referred to as Cara’s sidepiece, gives her hand a brief shake.

“Yeah, no, we haven’t. I’m Declan. I handle the IT end of things here.”

“And you’re another brother?”

“I am,” he says, smiling at her. “If you need anything, come see me. I can find anything out about

anyone.”

She tilts her head. “Really? Did you learn all about me?”

Declan’s eyes shift uncomfortably. “Uh…yeah, I did.”

Is she angry about that? Embarrassed? Nope, apparently not. She laughs.
