I stare at him, baffled, vaguely aware of Abigail tugging Nick and Declan to the dance floor. I’ve

never seen her dance…it’s incredibly entertaining, but right now, my focus is on Jonas. He picks up

on my confusion and explains.

“Zach said that I can not interfere, but I can watch and wait for my moment. Now is my moment.”

“I see.” I shoot a look at Zach, registering how tightly he’s holding his body. “I think you’re right

and wrong. She’s broken up, but she’s also heartbroken. Being her friend is the best thing you can do

right now.”

“I do not want to be friend-zoned.” My mouth drops open, and Zach winces.

“Brother, where’d you pick that up?”

“I saw it in a movie. It’s a bad thing.”

“I don’t think it is,” I say firmly. “I think that if a woman puts you in the friend zone, it means she

trusts you. That’s a good thing. A really good thing.”

He studies me, frowning. Then nods with finality. “Ok. I will work to get in Janey’s friend zone.”

Zach snorts. “That’s one way of putting it. Also maddening. And frustrating. And hilarious.”

“He has no filter,” I murmur.

“No, no filter. Which honestly, I love about him. But brutal honesty can be hard to handle

sometimes.”

I sigh and lean into him. “Any kind of honesty is hard, I suppose.”

Zach’s body tenses behind me, but I don’t look back. I can’t. I want to imagine that everything is

going to be okay for a while longer. So I do the only logical thing. I take his hand and pull it around

my waist and lean in to whisper-yell to him.

“Did I tell you I have a list of things I want to do? It’s not really a bucket list. It’s more a list of

regular things I haven’t done.”

Interest sparks in his eyes. “Do you want me to guess what’s on it?”

“No,” I say with a laugh, reading the dirty thoughts all over his face. “Some of the things you’re

thinking about are on there, but I’m realizing that I missed adding a lot of things. There are so many
