me is gone.

I want that familiarity desperately.

We still don’t match. The handsome, put together playboy, and the frumpy, slightly odd woman. On

paper, we’re complete opposites. Maybe in real life, too. But it doesn’t matter. I know his heart, and

he knows mine.

The rest of it doesn’t matter.

Zach’s looking lost in thought. I turn his chin toward me with one finger, loving how easily he

moves. How quickly he looks for our connection.

“What are you thinking about?”

His lips quirk, and he gives me the absolute last answer I ever expected.

“Dogs.”

“A re you sure about this?” I ask for about the millionth time.

Zach smiles, which is a miracle. I wouldn’t be this patient with me. Not at all. “Yes, I’m

sure.” He steps out of his walk-in closet —the man has way too many clothes— and leans in the

doorway, arms crossed.

“But, they’re messy. And needy. And noisy.”

His low chuckle makes my toes tingle. There is not a part of my body untouched by this man. He

even sucked on my toes. My toes! It didn’t seem strange to let other parts of him into me, but

somehow, him sucking on my toes was both the hottest and most embarrassing moment of my life.

“Baby, I could say the same for you. My apartment is a wreck since you came along.”

“Now you’re just being dramatic. It’s not that bad.”

He raises an eyebrow and stalks toward me slowly. “The cushions on my very expensive organic

cotton couch are always messed up. Your shoes are everywhere—.“

“That’s your fault. You bought all of them.”

“There are cut marks on my butcher block countertops.”

“Hey, no fair. Nobody ever cooked in there before me. Your knives were brand new.” I’m

disgusted all over again. “Why would you have a kitchen that nice and not use it? There’s something

really wrong with that.”
