“Hey, how have you been?” I asked to be polite.

“I’m good. Just moved down the hall. I need a fresh start.” Tasha was talking to me like we were old friends.

“That’s good.” I replied ready to move on from this conversation.

“Yeah, I’m happy to see you got away from Lamelle’s crazy ass. That man was sick.”

“He sure was.”’

“I guess I owe you an apology for how I treated you when I used to date him. He had me believing you two were ex’s and you were trying to get back with him.”

“Oh goodness no, back then we were only friends we met in college.” I clarified to her.

“See, he said y’all knew each other since childhood and the only reason y’all broke up was because you cheated on him.”

“Wow,” I said looking back at Mikael and he shook his head at me.

“Girl, that nigga tried to make me start dressing like you. Baby I was done when he brought me a pair of your panties and wanted me to wear them. I thought he was crazy, but when I walked in his house to cuss him out. Tell me why he had a fucking shrine of you. I was so creeped out I just left. I tried to find you to let you know what was going on. Somehow every time I tried to contact you, he would find out and threaten me. So, I left it alone. I loved my life too much.”

“Are you serious?” I said looking down at my phone wondering if Lamelle had bugged it.

“Yes, he got me fired from my job and a bunch of other stuff. I’m happy you got away from him though.”

“Me too,” I said, giving her an uneasy smile.

I had no idea Lamelle was as crazy as he was. To know Lamellehad been obsessing over me for so long kind of scared me. It made me wonder about the stuff he’d potentially had Malika doing and if she was actually doing it.

“It’s nice seeing you. Be safe Zaylee.” Tasha waved as she walked around us to the elevator.

“That nigga was really crazy,” I sighed as I resumed walking to my door.

“I could have told you that. The niggas eyes weren’t right.” Mikael replied monotonously. “But we finna get you a new phone. I don’t trust that nigga ain’t put some shit on that phone.”

I nodded my head as I went to unlock my door. Pushing it open I stopped in my tracks. My condo was completely trashed. My furniture was turned and flipped upside down. Stuff was thrown all over my floor and walls. There were holes in my walls, and it smelled like shit and I came to the realization that it was shit and piss that had been thrown all over the place. I wanted to cry out of frustration. Lamelle was really sick and I hated the day I ever met his sick ass.

“Mannn,” Mikael groaned, leaning around me, shutting the door. “Imma kill that nigga,” he said in a deadly tone.

Mikael was serious, he never played about my safety, and I knew he damn sure wasn’t going to play about our son’s safety. All I could do was pray that nothing bad would happen to him in the process of him trying to keep us safe.

Chapter 36

Mikael Wattson

Next Week

“You really think mama got something to do with this shit?” Lo asked me as we sat in the car in front of our mama’s house.

I loved my mama, but facts were facts. My nigga Gee knew a nigga what was into hacking. There was too much shit that wasn’t adding up. Fallon fucking our daddy, Maverick working at that Brothers Towing, Rahmeek disappearing. Nothing was connecting the way it should have been. So, I had them look into everybody's phone records and oddly enough our mama had been in contact with our bitch ass dad more than normal in the last few months. Then she had some calls coming in from Rahmeek which didn’t make no sense. So, I had him digging in deeper in our mama’s records and it came back that she had filed for an LLC for the name Brother’s towing and rented a business property a few miles away from where our main shop was located. I wanted to give our mama the benefit of the doubt but aye if it smelt like shit it had to be shit. I was the type of nigga that liked to go straight to the source. Our first stop was at our mama’s house.

“Ion know but you saw the same shit I did. Ain’t no explaining that shit away. Only thing she could say was our daddy held her at gunpoint and forced her to help him. Other than that, I’m cool on any sob story.”

“Man, this shit Bruh. I expected this shit from Maurice but our mama. Fuck nah.” Lo shook his head in disbelief. This shit was taking the biggest toll on him.

Our dad had stooped to another level of being low. Him fucking Fallon was enough to kill him in my eyes. Not because of Fallon but there was certain lines you didn’t cross when it came to family. Our dad had crossed all those boundaries, and he was lucky all Lo did was beat his ass. I would have killed the nigga and to think he was trying to play with Lo about his seeds yeah that nigga should have been dead.

“Let’s go,” I said, opening my car door and Lo followed suit.

We made our way up the stairs to our mama’s door; I knocked then walked in like I always did. What I wasn’t expecting to see when we walked into the living room was Rahmeek sitting on the couch eating a plate of food like shit was good. In flash Lo was around me pummeling Rahmeek. I watched proudly as Lo beat the breaks off that nigga. I wanted to be the one to fuck him up, but I think it would be better served if Lo was the one to do it. It would be other days for me to catch that nigga slipping. I cringed when Lo punched Rahmeek in the mouth and blood flew everywhere.
