Her security isn’t top of the line, which is surprising given how protective her father is.Or so Liam tells me.The system is still better than something Ma and Pa Average would buy at a hardware store, and that means whoever broke in knew what they were doing.

Who knows, though, with the internet, anyone can be an expert in a week.

But that doesn’t take into account the safe.

Not everyone can break into a safe.

Unless Tiffany left it unlocked. She wouldn’t be the first person to do so.

I haven’t had enough time to read everything, but right now my focus is on making sure Ms.Stallone is aligned and understands this was more than just a simple burglary, and her schedule needs to be shared and sound checked.

“Ms.Stallone.Tiffany.”I lean forward on my knees.“Can I be frank?”

She nods.

“This individual, or group, bypassed your security, got into your safe and wiped your cameras.And...”Given the obvious chemistry flowing between us I’m reluctant to bring this up, but it’s my job.“They took personal items.”

“I know, but they have the diamonds. They got what they wanted. The rest...”She untucks her leg and climbs to her feet while blushing.“It’s obviously creepy, but it happens. What’s important is that I meet my obligations and don’t let this interfere with them.”

I stand also—damn southern manners—and wonder if she’s concerned about her personal safety. All I’m hearing is that she cares about her business dealings.

I get it; she’s rich.

Who cares if she loses some diamonds?

While I’m trying to find a fucking job that I can do without triggering my PTSD and losing my home.

Jesus.

My father would be so ashamed of me.He never served; he wouldn’t get it.

Over the Fourth of July, he was thrilled that Jessie and Liam got engaged, saying he always knewthe boy loved my little girl.I’m not mad, but I’m on the precipice of potentially fucking up.

I want him to look at me with the same pride he did my sister and best friend.

“What if they wanted to hurt you?”

“They didn’t.They don’t.”Tiffany blinks.

“You know this how?”

“Are you trying to scare me?”Her cheeks heat, and I see a little fire behind those eyes.

“I’m trying to understand your state of mind so I can do my job.”

“You want me to be scared. To change my plans and make your job easier.”

Yes.

“No.”

The police report had noted Tiffany Stallone seemed ruffled but not distraught at losing her valuable jewels. There was a question around insurance fraud, but not something they were actively pursuing.

I thought that was unlikely given her family's wealth, but I guess it happens.

Again, I’m not a cop.

Still, Tiffany didn’t seem like a criminal to me.And I couldn’t see why she’d fake the panties and sex toys going missing, drawing attention to those things and her brand.Clearly, she cares about her business.
