She turns like she’s going to kiss me and I straighten.

“Tom’s reasons are his.” I brush her hand off my suit and straighten the wrinkles. “Maybe he just wanted to get into your friend’s pants and you were the easiest way to convince her to come with him.”

“No one can get to Natasha.” Verity smirks. “Not without going through her father and getting permission.”

“You said she was Tom’s date for tonight.”

Verity grabs a napkin from the table and wipes at her tears. All fake. “He asked. She said yes. But neither of them is here, so obviously he didn’t ask her daddy. You know, you and I could be useful to each other.”

She glances over her shoulder at where Sara now dances with Drew. I look around to find her previous dance partner, but he’s nowhere to be found.

“Sara is taken. I have something you want. I know what you want. I’m friends with Talia.”

That draws my attention. Talia had been a means to an end and she knew it. We fucked. She let me be as rough as I needed to be. I cock an eyebrow at Verity. She’s grasping at straws. Meaning she really wants to have me for some reason.

Even a fool could see she still wants to hurt Sara. Fuck Tom and whatever plan he concocted.

“You think you could handle what I need?” It’s my turn to smirk.

She smiles, thinking she has me, and steps in close. “I could be everything you need.”

I lean down to her ear. “Do you really think I’d want a vapid whore like you?”

She sucks in a breath.

Straightening, I smile like I didn’t say anything. “Can I refresh your drink?”

Her eyes narrow, but she says, “Thank you.”

Sometimes I love society’s trappings that make bitches like Verity behave. I walk away from her and the table. It’s time to find the gentleman Sara was talking to.

Sara

When Drew leads me back to the table, Verity sneers from her seat. I turn and see Wyatt’s back halfway across the room. Drew guides me around to Dante and Nan.

“Where are Finn and Olivia?” I ask.

Dante nods to the dance floor. I brace myself, but when I turn to see them dancing, it doesn’t hurt as much as I thought it would. If I thought for one moment he wanted to be there with her instead of me, I’d be out of this.

But he wants me. I touch my diamonds. Maybe more than just for now.

I try not to think of it, because a future with any of them would be tangled and messy. My mom loves me and would do anything for me, but I don’t think she would be okay with me being in a relationship with four guys.

Tom would never forgive his friends for crossing the line with me. My heart stops. Their friendship is important to all of them. He would hate me. They would all end up hating me.

Fuck it. That’s a problem for another day. Right now, I have information.

“The man I danced with was Peter Sokolov.” I meet Dante’s gaze. “Natasha’s father.”

Dante looks over at the dance floor. “Where is he now?”

I shake my head. “He left me on the dance floor and Drew?—‍”

I glance at Drew. He danced with me instead of following the man. Was that intentional to let Peter get away?

“I danced with my date.” Drew cups my cheek. “I hate that someone else got your first dance, princess.”

He leans down and kisses me briefly before straightening.
