I pressedthe key card on the sensor, and the light went green. My hands wrapped around the handle, and I pushed the door open, holding it as Skye walked inside.

The soft, floral, and fresh scent that was uniquely hers drifted through the air. Never had a smell turned me on so much. Everything about her turned me on. As the door shut behind me, the sound echoed in the room. I still wasn’t sure this was the best idea, but somehow it felt inevitable. I hoped that once we were together, this obsession that I’d formed for her would be over.

I’d be able to get my mind back, my life back.

Every year, I booked a hotel close to the venue of the fundraiser as a convenience because I always had a date. This year, Jada had secured it after we’d finalized The Pearl. I almost cancelled it after I’d decided not to invite Anastasia, I’m so fucking glad I hadn’t.

The upscale boutique hotel had a vintage vibe. A fully stocked, gold-plated bar sat in one corner. A king-sized bed faced a wall, of floor-to-ceiling windows and a velvet chaise lounge. The room was dimly lit, illuminated by three wall sconces that ran across a black wall giving the space a romantic, sexy ambiance.

“Would you like a drink?”

“Um, sure. I’ll take a vodka soda.”

I mixed both our drinks and then handed her the tumbler. We both stared at each other, glasses in hand, as I tried to decide what toast to give.

“To...us.” It was simple, but I liked the sound ofus.

“To us,” she repeated as we clinked before taking a drink.

The cold beverage hit my tongue, and I realized I’d made it stronger than I’d meant to as the libation went down my throat. I started to apologize when I noticed that she was still drinking. She finished the entire drink, and then set the glass on the table beside her.

“Do you want another one?”

“No, I’m good.”

I wondered if her dose of liquid courage was to settle her nerves or if she was having second thoughts. I needed to know which one it was. “If you want, we can just sit and talk. Or I can still take you home.”

She licked her lips, and the sight caused my dick to swell in my pants. “No, I’m fine. I just…needed that.”

“Are you sure because…?”

My question trailed off as she took a step forward, closing the space between us. I realized then that she’d never initiated a conversation with me, and she sure as hell had never initiated any physical contact or even nearness.

Her eyes lifted to mine, and I could see that there was desire flickering in her golden gaze as she stated firmly, “I’m sure.”

I’d never had an issue with making a move before; even when I was an inexperienced teenager, I’d had confidence in this area of my life. But now, as I stood before Skye, I felt…nervous. I was in my head, overthinking what was about to happen. Skye usually calmed my racing thoughts, but now they were traveling at warp speed.

Wanting to touch her but not wanting to move too fast, I reached out and gently ran my hands down her arms. As my fingertips grazed her skin, tiny goosebumps rose on her flesh. “Are you cold?”

“No, it’s just… that happens when I’m…” She exhaled slowly before licking her lips again. The sight of her tongue sliding along the seam of her mouth made me grow even harder. Her shoulders squared, and her eyes lifted to mine. “It happens when I’m turned on.”

Fuck.I’d been with women who were masters in the field of dirty talk, but that might have been the hottest thing I’d ever heard. My cock jumped behind its zippered barrier.

She let out a short, nervous laugh. “At least that’s if memory serves.”

“If memory serves?” I questioned; I wasn’t sure I was following.

“It’s been a while for me.” She licked her lips again.

“How long is a while?”

I sensed that she was retreating back into her emotional turtle shell. That was the last thing I wanted to happen. The back of my thumbs slid back up her arm; the bumps were still there.

“When is the last time you came so hard you saw stars?” I asked boldly, desperate to keep her from putting up her walls.

She let out a huff of air. “Never.”
