“It’s just...something I do.” I softened my tone. “Every morning I make Mrs. G and Lexi breakfast.”

“Okay, I was just trying to help.” She shook her head. “I mean, do my job. I mean...I just normally…that’s what the job entails. But…obviously if that’s not something you want I won’t…”

As she stumbled over her words, I just wanted to thread my fingers through her hair and crush my mouth to hers. That was all I could think about doing. I needed to get the fuck away from her.

“I guess I just need to know what you want.”

You.I want you.

“I mean…” She shook her head again, clearly flustered. “I need to know what my job entails.”

I cleared my throat and took a step back from her, putting space between us physically and said, “We can go over the schedule later today. I have meetings this afternoon, so we can do it later this morning.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll be in the gym, if you need me.”

“Oh…” A flush rose on her cheeks as the tip of her pink tongue slid between the seam of her perfect lips. My head knew that it was a nervous tick, my hormones interpreted the gesture in an entirely different light. “Okay.”

I could feel myself growing hard beneath my sweats, so I abruptly turned to leave before her effect on me was obvious. I made it halfway down the hall when I realized that I’d forgotten to drink the espresso. But there was no way that I was going back in there. I didn’t trust myself around her and until I got that under control, I planned on avoiding her as much as possible. At least when Lexi wasn’t around as a buffer.

The fact that I needed a four-year-old as a buffer was a definite sign that having Sadie move in might not have been the best idea. I’d clearly underestimated my feelings for her. And I wasn’t sure what I was going to do about that.
