I stared in disbelief before turning my head toward Mia. “How did you do all of this?”

“I didn’t. This was all Alex.”

“It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you’re a bazillionaire,” Charli added flatly. “I told you, this is some Christian Grey shit.”

Mia’s lips twitched and I could see that she wanted to laugh, but she managed to contain it.

My legs felt wobbly as I crossed the room and entered the closet fit for royalty. After stepping inside, it was like I was going through the wardrobe into Narnia. I did a three-sixty spin like I was starring in a slow-mo movie sequence. The cedar built-ins were lined with clothing pieces that I was sure individually cost more than my collective wardrobe had. I’d thought that this morning was the most shocking thing that could have ever happened to me, but this was rivaling the fire. In a completely different way.

“You can leave your things here and we can continue the tour.”

My “things” consisted of four Target bags filled with toiletries, underwear and bras and two changes of clothing. I couldn’t help feeling a little silly as Charli set them down just inside the closet.

Mia continued, “I’ll show you the kitchen.”

At the mention of the kitchen, my heart rate once again picked up speed. When Alex offered the space so that I could continue to fill standing orders while I figured out what my next move was, it had caused me to jump off the fence I’d been sitting on as to whether or not to do this.

Mia and Charli chatted about which classes they’d be taking this week as we walked down a long hallway that opened up into the most beautiful kitchen I’d ever laid eyes on. Forget the closet, this was the real Kardashian-worthy room.

My fingertips grazed the marble countertop on the largest island I’d ever seen. It had to be eighteen feet long and it had…wait for it…waterfall edges. The walls were lined with black cabinets that went all the way up to the twelve-foot ceilings and were adorned with brass finishes that matched the brass vent hood which was a work of art in and of itself. There was a twelve-burner stove, two ovens, a wine fridge, and the real wow-factor for this girl, a sleek, double-door commercial grade refrigerator complete with a smart-technology touch screen.

Mia then opened a pantry filled with every baking ingredient known to mankind. The heavens opened and I swore I heard the angels singing the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

“If I missed anything, just let me know.” She tapped on a twin screen that was mounted onto the wall. “You can enter anything you need into this and it will be delivered within the hour.”

My eyes shot to Charli as I silently communicated to her that this was completely and totally mind-blowingly insane and I couldn’t believe what was happening. She stared back at me and lifted her brow saying,I told you so.

Okay…so maybe this wasn’t theworstday of my life.
