Luke shrugged. “Did you used to date Pinocchio?”

Maggie covered her laugh. “Something like that.”

He tugged her hand down from her mouth. “You don’t have to hide from me. Ever.”

Her green eyes sparkled. “You’re dangerous.”

“Not to you.”

She just hummed. “That remains to be seen.” Her hand slid around his elbow. “Shall we?”

“Let’s go.”

Maggie leaned against him as they stood in line to check in. He felt like the luckiest guy in town tonight.

“It’s funny. My mom always told me I couldn’t wear pink because of my hair.”

Luke shook his head. “That’s crazy.”

She hummed thoughtfully. “Most shades clash pretty horribly. But this one works.”

He released his arm so it could slide around her shoulders. “You don’t talk about her much.”

Maggie stiffened ever so slightly against him. “We don’t have a good relationship.”

Luke stroked his thumb over her bare arm to soothe whatever feathers he’d unwittingly ruffled. “I’m sorry to hear that. For what it’s worth, I think my mom would adopt you.”

At that, she chuckled. “I like your mom.”

With that, they got to the front of the line. Luke gave them his name for the tickets he’d purchased and they entered through the balloon arch he’d spent two hours putting together this afternoon.

“Wow!”

Luke drew Maggie onto the dance floor, the family-friendly line dances starting up. They found an open spot and while Luke didn’t know them all that well, he tried. Maggie at least seemed to know them, and she didn’t stop smiling all night.

Eventually, the families with kids and the elderly called it a night, and the music turned more club-like. Luke found himself in the middle of the dark dance floor, his hands full of Maggie’s voluptuous ass as they did the bump ‘n grind. He’d loosened his tie an hour ago. When the DJ switched to a slow song, she wrapped her arms around his neck, and he held her close. She laid her head against his shoulder. And he didn’t know how he could have ever thought he’d give this up.

He shoved the logistics of the two of them aside. That was Future Luke’s problem to solve. Present Luke had an armful of curvy Maggie and that was all he was going to think about.

Most of the people their age were starting to leave for the night, the teenagers the only ones willing to dance until the wee hours of the morning. He saw Grace leaving, Felix following close behind her, like he was trying to catch up.

Interesting.

Maggie paused in her dancing when the song changed again. She stood on her tiptoe to speak in his ear. “Will you take me home?”

He gripped her tightly, looking into her eyes. Was she offering what he thought she was? She nodded at his unasked question, and his blood started to flow south. “Are you sure?” He mouthed the words as the music grew louder.

In answer, she pressed on the back of his neck until their lips met in a sensual kiss that translated her urgency. He tried to deepen the kiss, but she pulled away, and tugged on his tie.

What his Mags wanted, she would get.

Maggiestruggledtokeepher hands to herself on the short drive back to the Haven. Thank goodness this dress had pockets, or she would have probably forgotten her keys at the dance.

Luke, smart man that he was, had an overnight bag with him that he’d brought in. He dropped it inside the door to her room and pulled her tightly to him.

Their lips locked in a mating dance while her hands desperately unknotted his tie. She could feel his erection pressing through their clothes and she needed him. Needed his hands and his mouth all over her body. She hadn’t felt like this with anyone before.

Chuckling, Luke pulled away from her far enough to undo the tie on his own. “Better, sweetheart?”
