I was losing my breath and my mind as his lips drifted down my neck.“Taz…” I didn’t know if I was protesting or pleading and it didn’t seem to matter anymore.I knew how the night had to end. With him in my bed.

“I want to get out of here,” he said, sounding as desperate as I felt.“I need to take you home, make love to you?—”

“You have another set,” I said, bracing my hands on his chest.“You can’t leave yet.”

“I don’t give a shit about pleasing these people.I only care about pleasing you.”

I closed my eyes, remembering all the ways he’d pleased me, night after night.“Your career?—”

“Means nothing to me if I don’t have you, Grace.”His hands framed my face when he whispered, “You hear me?None of it means anything without you.”

I wanted to believe him, but he’d broken my heart once before.Could I really risk it again?

“I need you tonight.”He rested his forehead against mine, his lips hovering just out of reach.“I need you every night.Say you’ll come home with me.Tell me you’ll give me this one last shot.”

ChapterTwenty-Two

Taz

I forgot how to breathe as I waited for her to respond. When I started the day, I never imagined it could end with her in my arms. But if it did, I intended to worship her like I never had before.

Not just to tell her, but to show her, that she was my everything.

“I need you too,” she said, brushing my lower lip with her fingertip.“But I’m so scared.”

I closed my hand around the back of her head.“I hate myself for hurting you.But I’ll spend every damn day for the rest of our lives making up for it, if you’ll let me.”

“Taz.”Her eyes drifted down.“Don’t start throwing around words like that, if you don’t mean them.It hurts too much?—”

“Look at me,” I said, tipping her chin.“Listen to me.Hear me.You’re it for me.Whatever you want, whatever you need, I’m your guy.‘Cause I tried to do this thing without you, and I can’t.”

“It’s too soon to be talking about?—”

“I don’t care if I’ve known you a day, a week, or a year.I know, okay?I know. And if you feel the same way, that’s all that matters.”

“I don’t know how I feel right now.I’m just so confused.”

I could hear the torment in her voice, and I hated that I’d put it there.

“I thought it was over, that maybe someday, I could get over you. But, Taz, seeing you again makes me wonder if that’s even possible.”

She tipped her head back and I had to taste her, to feel her lips, the slow slide of her tongue against mine, that whimper that told me I was turning her on.I’d memorized every damn thing about this girl and played it on repeat in my head every night. It was time to add more to the story. To keep writing it, with no end in sight.

I coaxed her into the kiss, but within seconds she was feeling it too.

She finally tore her lips from mine and whispered, “We shouldn’t be doing this here.”

“You’re right, we need to get the hell out of here.Just gimme a minute, baby.”I hit up J.T.at the bar, knowing he’d understand.“Listen, man.I need to bail early. You think the band would mind if I do my thing now?”

J.T.smirked as his gaze drifted to Grace, who was standing on the edge of the dance floor, shaking her head, as some asshole with a cowboy hat was pointing to the dance floor, obviously trying to convince her to dance.

Clearly, he hadn’t seen her making out with me thirty seconds ago.

“Yeah, you might want to get your girl out of here.Ain’t too often Grace comes in here without having to fight off the regulars.”

I was tempted to rescue her, and tell the wannabe cowboy to back off, but I knew Grace didn’t need me, or anyone else to save her.I’d never met a woman more capable of handling herself, which only made me want her more.

“Just let me talk to the band after this song, Taz.Then we’ll get you up there.”He tapped his knuckles against the bar.“Thanks again for doing this, buddy.I really appreciate it.”
