“Hi.”
“Hey.”
Why am I acting like I’m talking to him for the first time? I roll my eyes at myself.
“Do you want to come out for drinks?” I ask quickly. “There will be other lawyers there and I know you hate being around lawyers and they’ll be drunk so there will be lots of legal talk and they might even?—”
“Caroline?” He interrupts.
“Yes?” My voice is a squeak.
“Do you want me to come?” He asks the question point blank.
I close my eyes. He’s been inside me, but something about admitting that I want him here makes me feel vulnerable. “Yes.”
“I’m on my way. Text me the address.” That’s it. No second thought, no hesitation. I asked, and he’s doing it.
“You probably won’t have a good time,” I warn. “I don’t want you to come all the way to the city and have a bad time.”
“Baby, I absolutely won’t have a good time surrounded by lawyers. But I’m going to love seeing you shine. I’ll see you in thirty minutes.”
His words make me glow. I have to make myself remember that Killian isn’t Beckett or our parents. My success and independence doesn’t equal defiance to him.
CHAPTER 29
Killian
“AmI crazy or is this really cute?” Caroline says, walking into the studio at the apartment. She puts her phone in front of my face and on the screen is a pair of red bottom heels. They’re studded with big white stones that wrap all the way around the ankles.
“Will you be able to walk in those?” I ask.
Caroline looks at me like I’ve said something offensive. “Killian, please. I’ve been walking in heels since I was old enough to wear them. These are like walking in sneakers.”
“They’re cute,” I say, distractedly. My eyes are drawn to her mouth because she’s sucking on a cherry lollipop. Her lips wrap around the candy as she pulls it out of her mouth and then back in again, swirling her tongue.
Fuck,as if it’s not enough she can make me hard with a look.
“I think I’m going to order them.”
Her eyes are focused on her phone while I’m planning on how to get her out of my shirt. She only has the middle two buttons done and I can see the valley between her breasts through the gap in the shirt. She’s paired the white shirt with black lace panties, her hair piled up into a messy bun.
We had plans to catch a play in Central Park, but that wascancelled thanks to the summer rain pouring outside. Clouds started rolling in early morning and it’s been pouring rain for the last two hours. As if that wasn’t enough, the A/C went out last night and the super needs a part to fix it which isn’t going to arrive until Monday.
So our Saturday is very hot and humid.
“Was there ever any doubt?” I ask.
Caroline smiles as she finishes ordering the shoes. “For a second.”
She surprises me by offering me the lollipop. I’ve never been a fan of sweet things, but she can offer me poison and I’d eat it. I take the lollipop into my mouth and suck. Its tart sweetness tickles the back of my throat.
Keeping the lollipop in my mouth, I lower to kiss her, the candy trapped between our mouths. She tastes like cherries, but sweeter than the candy. No matter how many times I taste her, it’s never enough.
I’ll never have enough of Caroline and she’ll never know the wild beast inside me who wants to consume her. She moans softly, wrapping an arm around my neck and pressing her body against mine.
My hands immediately drop to her ass, kneading the soft plumpness.
“Aren’t you supposed to be painting?” Caroline asks breathlessly.
