“Fight, maim, or kill. I remember.”
They shared a small smile before Johanna rested her head back in the crook of his neck. “About our house…”
He laughed, the sound vibrating through him so hard it shook her. “Yeah, that’s not getting fixed for a while.”
She frowned. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. A house can be repaired or fixed, or a new one bought, but there is nothing in this world that matters more than you.”
She kissed his neck, and he ran his palms over her back, kneading her muscles.
“Where do we go from here?” she asked.
“Well, we should probably find another house to buy, and there are a million other things that we’ll have to fix to win this war and protect the people we love.” His hands slid down to her ass and he squeezed her cheeks. “But for right now, I was thinking that we happen to be safe, alone, and already in bed. It would be a shame to waste such a wonderful opportunity.”
She laughed as he rolled them over and settled between her thighs.
“I’ve missed you,” he whispered, kissing her shoulder and sliding down the strap of her nightgown.
She cupped his face and stared deeply into the most beautiful mix of green and gray. “I love you.”
Luke’s eyes softened, filled with adoration and passion. He cupped her hands and whispered against her lips, “I love you too, and I will for the rest of time.”
