But…

I think it’s going to have to wait. I may be a player, but I’m not ascumbag. And making a move on Autumn when she’sscared and stressed and probably still kind of reeling from last night seems… I don’t know. Kind of low.

But we’ll get there. I’m not worried.

“Right,” Autumn says. She fixes me with this irritated little look that makes me crack up.

I slap both hands on the counter on either side of me and push off, hopping back down to the floor. I stretch my arms above my head, fully aware that my sweats are barely hanging off my hips and Autumn’s probably got a full view of my happy trail.

Yep—her eyes dip down, lingering a second, before she turns and starts briskly toward the other side of the cabin, where the bed is.

“I’m going to bed,” she announces.

“Already?”

“Yep. Some of us aren’t twenty anymore, bud. Some of us have jobs.”

I snort. “And some of you are grandmas, apparently.”

“Watch it,” Autumn warns, pointing a finger at me.

She gazes at me for a minute, like she’s considering something, then gives a little shrug to herself and pulls her shirt up over her head. Even from where I’m still leaning against the kitchen counter, I can see the lush curve of her pillowy tits inside her bra, the smooth slope of her bare stomach. I swallow hard. I wasn’t expectingthis.

Autumn peels off her jeans, kicking them into a heap on the floor. She plops herself onto the unmade bed, and I catch a glimpse of full, round ass cheek before she sinks into the sheets, settling back into the bed. I don’t know where to look or what the hell to do—because even that glimpse is getting me hot, and I already decided I’m not gonna make a move on her.

Fuuuuuck.

Now I’m thinking about the tattoo.

Autumn raises up on her elbows, peering at me from the bed. “You coming?”

Wow. What a choice of words.

If given the choice, I’d be coming all over those?—

“You don’t have to sleep on the floor, you know,” she says. “I’m notthatmuch of an asshole.”

“Um.” I swallow again, willing my dick to cooperate. Please, dude. Take it easy.“Uh—I’m not really tired yet.”

Autumn’s quiet a moment. Then she says, “I need you in here.”

In here?!Good god. She’s literally trying to kill me.

But I don’t argue. I don’t say anything at all, just switch off the lights and head over to the bed. Keeping my sweats on—because I donotneed that temptation—I sink down onto the bed and lie down next to her. She turns toward me, so we’re lying there facing each other. She looks so delicate, nestled in the sheets of my bed—technically her bed?—with the moonlight streaming in through the window and her auburn hair falling gently across the pillow.

“Thanks,” she says. There’s a tiny smile on her mouth, and I’m trying hard not to think about what her kiss felt like last night.

“For what?”

She shrugs. “For taking me seriously. Letting me stay.”

I match her smile. “I mean… youdoown the place.”

“True. But you know what I mean. I was really freaked out.”

“I could tell.”

She’s quiet again, and I can tell she’s thinking. “Do you really think I’m a grandma?”
