‘How is Luna doing?’ Henry asked.

‘She can sit and stay for a full minute.’

‘That’s great. I taught Blossom to roll over this week.’ Henry spoke the words, his expression full of pride.

As the two women slipped off their coats and took their seats, Ava looked at Mary. ‘What are they like?’ She knew Blossom was the star of her training class, but it was no wonder when she also had extra help courtesy of the boy from the pet show.

Gino shook his head. ‘Well, Luna is more of a thinker. She likes to—’

‘Is that a bar towel?’ Henry looked around him and laughed as Luna trotted out from behind the bar, a bar towel hanging from her mouth.

‘Ah Luna, what have I told you? That is not your blankie.’

They all laughed at the sight of the cheeky puppy.

‘Can you imagine them once they become dads?’ Ava whispered.

‘Woah! One step at a time. I’m just getting used to the man and the puppy in my life,’ Mary said, calling Luna to her and picking her up, complete with her prize possession still in her mouth.

‘And how is that going?’ Ava asked, watching Mary as she made a fuss of the dog.

‘It’s all a bit lovely really, but don’t tell anyone I said that.’

‘Your secret’s safe with me.’ Ava giggled.

Gino joined Mary in making a fuss of Luna. Ava looked at her friends and knew she couldn’t feel happier for them. As Henry took his seat next to her, she couldn’t resist leaning up and kissing him. He looked at her, a cheeky grin on his face that she knew she’d never tire of looking at.

‘What was that for?’

‘Because I can.’ Ava smiled. Life really was all a bit lovely, and Gino was right, love had found a way.
