“Is that right?” Cole’s mouth turned up in a half-smile when he glanced my way. Then he winked at me, before directing a scowl back to the other women. Before he could say anything else, Trick spoke up, startling me. I hadn’t even seen him walk into the room.
“Paisley, you already had one strike against you, for approaching Jag twice, even after he fucking told you to leave him the hell alone. Now, you’ve earned a second strike, for disregarding an order from Prospect Lincoln, questioning the President’s decisions last night, and making disparaging comments about a club member and his woman, aguestof the club.”
“But, Trick, I –“ Paisley quickly shut her mouth at the fierce expression on Trick’s face, obviously thinking better of her attempt to try to argue with him or plead her case.
“Remember, second strike. If there’s a third strike, you’re out on your ass.”
Paisley’s mouth tightened into a firm line, and she quickly flashed me an icy glare before nodding at him. Before anyone could say anything more, she turned on her heel and strode from the room, heading for the back door.
Trick eyed the two blonde bunnies closely, before telling them, “You two are on extremely thin ice with me. You need to watch yourselves. Now, get this shit cleaned up.” He gestured to the breakfast dishes scattered around, and they both nodded meekly, then got busy working.
Cole wrapped his arms around me and held me close to whisper in my ear, “Are you OK, slugger? You looked like you wanted to rip that bitch’s head off for a minute there.”
I flashed a wry grin. “That’s probably because I was imagining punching her in the throat.”
He took a deep breath, then asked, “What happened? What did she say to you?”
I just shook my head. “It was no big deal. I’ll tell you later. What did you guys decide to do about Chad Laskey?”
Cole looked at me pointedly, but I held my ground. There was no reason to waste his time recounting the things that skanky woman had said.
“Rome, Lucky, and I are gonna’ head out now and check out some of the places he’s worked at. If we don’t find him, the club will patrol again tonight, making the rounds of his hangouts again.”
I nodded and reminded him to be careful.
“I’ll be fine, Angel. Rome and Lucky have my back.”
I giggled. “That’s fine. They can have your back, but I get everything else.” Cole’s eyes widened comically when I slipped my hand between our bodies and cupped the bulge behind his zipper. He pumped his hips reflexively and I gently squeezed his hardening cock. He lowered his head to kiss me, stopping abruptly when Trick cleared his throat, loudly. Crap, I’d forgotten he was standing right there.
“You two knock that shit off. I didn’t mind hearing it all night, but I don’t need to see it, too. Not that I would mind seeingyou, Molly, but I don’t want to see Jag flashin’ his junk around.”
Cole jerked back and took a step toward Trick, who backed away laughing. Rome and Lucky unknowingly saved Trick when they opened the front door and stepped into the room.
“Jag, are you ready to go, or what?”
Cole eyed Trick like he still wanted to smack him answered Rome. “Yeah, I’m ready.” He eyed Trick like he still wanted to throat-punch him. “Are you sticking around here today?”
“No, I have to head to the gym to finish the arrangements for the…event next week.” Trick glanced at me as he hesitated, and it was obvious theeventwasn’t something he wanted to talk about in front of me. Probably some of that “club business” I’d been warned would never be discussed with me. Whatever. They could keep their secrets, as long as it didn’t involve me or Cole.
Cole gave me a quick kiss, and Trick looked at me and gave an apologetic shrug, which he ruined by winking at me again. I rolled my eyes at his antics and waved them all out the door.
Five hours later, I was bored out of my mind and deeply regretting that I hadn’t packed my Kindle. Reading on my phone gave me a headache after a while, so I’d only do that as a last resort. I’d called my parents to let them know that Cole really wanted to meet them, but explained he was out trying to find Chad Laskey. I’d assured them that the club only wanted to help the police and would turn him over if they found him first. Judging by the way my dad snorted on the other end of the phone, I don’t think he believed me. I didn’t really believe it, either.
I’d then busied myself stripping the bed in Cole’s room, laundering the sheets, and putting them back on the bed. I’d made cheeseburgers and homemade fries for lunch, most of which were devoured by a grateful King and Bull, and had been given a lesson in motorcycle throttle assemblies by Pop and Viking when I made the mistake of wandering out to the garage to see what they were up to. Thankfully, I hadn’t had any more run-ins with any of the delightful club bunnies.
I was now trying to play darts with Linc, who’d clearly drawn the short straw and been saddled with babysitting me today. Unfortunately, darts were very muchnotmy game, which was made abundantly clear when I almost hit Bull with one when he came around the corner from his office. His sudden appearance startled me and threw off my aim, which admittedly, wasn’t that great to begin with.
“Shit,” Bull yelled, and instinctively ducked as the dart sailed through the air heading straight for him. I cringed as Bull straightened to his full height, crossed his tattooed arms in front of his heavily muscled chest, and directed his scowl my way. He cocked a brow, glanced down at the floor, where the dart had landed harmlessly at his feet, then looked back at me.
“Molly, I think you should stick to pool and poker,” he advised me, then calmly reached down to pick up the dart, pointedly handing it to Linc rather than to me.
“I am so, so sorry, Bull, I didn’t – “
He held a hand up to halt my apology. “It’s all right, but do me a favor and leave the darts alone before you turn somebody into a human pincushion.”
I blushed, then sagged in relief when the big, scowly man shook his head at me fondly and flashed a reluctant grin. “You’re something else, lady,” he told me as he walked off toward the kitchen. I decided to take that as a compliment, even though I wasn’t quite sure whether he meant it that way.
