“They’re probably not going to be happy I announced it to the internet before them.”
He rubs his hands across my back. “It will be okay. I’m very charming.”
“I know. They’re going to fall in love with you,” I admit.
“Would that be so bad?” he asks.
I meet his deep blues. “Not unless this doesn’t work out.”
“Are you doubting anything?”
“Actually, no.”
“So,” he says, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. “I guess that dream I had about us drunkenly announcing our relationship online actually happened?”
I groan, the sound muffled against his chest. “Totally wasn’t a dream.”
He chuckles. “Not having second thoughts, are you?”
“Not at all. Or I would’ve said nightmare.” I lift my head enough to meet his cute face. “I’d do it again.”
“Good. It’s a new day. And you have a book to finish because I want to spend time with you before I have to return to work next week.”
Willow jumps off the table and trots into the kitchen.
“I have a horrible hangover,” I mutter.
Ezra chuckles and kisses my forehead. “Let’s get you some meds, water, coffee, and food. Then you’ll feel like a brand-new woman.”
He shifts, moving me aside carefully, when his phone buzzes from the table.
Ezra grabs it, eyes scanning the screen. His entire body goes rigid.
My stomach drops. “What?”
He meets my eyes. “The pictures of us in the backyard were posted.”
CHAPTER 26
EZRA
Scarlett’s eyes widen as she stares at my phone, color meeting her cheeks.
I curse under my breath, reading the headline again.
The Modern-Day Voice of Romance in Scandal with Ezra Reed
Photos fill the screen, blurry but obvious. My jaw clenches. “I was hoping they wouldn’t think it was headline-worthy after we dropped the news.”
“How bad is it?” Scarlett’s voice sounds scratchy.
I scroll through the comments, relieved when I see the reactions. “Mostly people taking up for you, calling it clickbait bullshit, and they’re telling the media to leave us alone. Seems like plenty of people would happily trade places with either of us.”
She closes her eyes and exhales, almost relieved. “Thank goodness. I was waiting for the slut rumors.”
“Nah, looks like they’re getting roasted for posting our private moments and are being accused of jumping on a trend. Do you want to see?”
She shakes her head. “No, it’s best if I don’t.”
