Oh.Oh shit. Did that…Does it?Oh god.

“What?” My voice cracked at the end. Damn it.

John gave me an encouraging smile as all the Gemins around the table remained silent, observing and listening to our exchange. “I don’t want to alarm you.”Too fucking late for that.“But you can be sure that your pregnancy will be closely watched. Maxwell will probably havemedo some monitoring in between your appointments up there.” He pointed at the evening sky. At the invisible space station I’d been supposed to visit before coming here. “But you may not even be pregnant right now, so let’s just stop freaking you out,” he quickly added, chuckling awkwardly.

Nitochi wasn’t done freaking out. In fact, his arms were closed so tight around me that my back was plastered to his front and I couldn’t move nor turn to face him.

Baelor gave me a bright smile as everyone resumed their quiet conversations. “Does it mean there is a chance we will see all this next week when we go to the human base?”

I shook my head. “No. Even if I’m pregnant, it’s still too soon to see or hear it—them?Oh dear…”

“Everything will be fine, habanshi,” he whispered, coming to sit closer, making me feel once again like the middle part of a sexy sandwich.

Would it? “I’m human, how can we know that I’ll be…I don’t know, able to carry this many babies? Two is already something that doesn’t happen often in human pregnancies, somore? It’s terrifying!”

Nitochi seemed to agree with me when he held me tighter, burying his face in the back of my hair.

“We will be fine. I trust John,” Baelor said. “I know he will not let your pregnancy put you in danger.”

I wasn’t too scared about the pregnancy. Thedeliverywas what terrified me the most.

“Are you born withwings?” I croaked.

“Yes,” Nitochi answered. “But they are small, featherless, and the bones in them are not fully formed for the first couple of years.”

Thank god. That was one less thing to worry about…

You shouldn’t have consummated.

Nitochi

Ido not like this.

My hand was clasped around hers as we sat in the flying death box.

Baelor, although he had taken this thing more often than I did, did not look like he enjoyed it either.

“It’s going to move more as we get closer to the base,” John explained, pulling on the thing that kept him seated to tighten it. “Make sure your harnesses are secure so you’re not thrown around when we get near the docks.”

I looked at the insulting rough fabric strapped around each of our bodies. It better be secured because I had no idea how to “secure” it more.

“I do not like this thing,” I muttered.

My wings felt constricted as they were folded between my back and the backrest of the seat. The damn “harness” keeping me in place did not make it more comfortable.

“Me neither,” John said. “That’s why I asked to be stationed on the planet, so I wouldn’t have to go back and forth constantly.”

I rolled my eyes.Right.Nothing to do with the fact that he fell in love with our aunt and wanted to see her more often.

Baelor and I exchanged a knowing look.

“The shuttle I traveled in from Galleat was definitely more comfortable and stable,” Wendy added before she winced. “Well, at least until it was attacked by the stupid space pirates or whatever they called themselves.”

“I gave my report on this whole event to Maxwell and they must have looked into it by now,” John told her. “They might tell you what they learned, at least if you want to know.”

Did she want to know?
