My eyebrows shot upward. "They're not hard."
"I'm going to be terrible. My reflexes are slow as fuck because of my magic."
The apathy.
Ah.
That did make sense.
"You've never played before?"
"I've played, but usually just chill farming games. Merrily has to do the fishing for me in all of them. I fucking hate the fishing."
"There are mods for some of those games that let you skip the fishing."
"There are?"
"Yup."
"I needed you in my life a century ago. Do you know how many panic attacks Merrily has had trying to catch the fish?"
"She has panic attacks from fishing in video games?"
"Yup. And I lose most of the fish when I try to catch them."
"Wow. You must be the worst video gamers that exist."
"Yeah, we've been saying that for years. Callum and Liv get on and crush us at games they don't even know."
"Well, you can't game with me unless you're going to be on the other team, fucking up their chances. Or while I'm touching you, so your reflexes aren't so bad."
"I prefer the second option, but I can accept the first."
"Alright. I'll text you my username." I noticed the bag of takeout food still sitting on the coffee table. It would be cold... but it sounded good.
"Want to share the food?" I asked.
Darius shot me a look. "You don't share food."
"Apparently, I do after I've been fucked."
“Fingerfucked,” he corrected.
I kicked his leg, earning a wicked grin as he grabbed the bag of food off the table. I scooted closer, and we shared it.
It was kind of nice.
"If we were together, this is what it would be like," Darius said, casually. "I'm not asking or trying to push you. Just throwing that out there. We'd hang out, just like this.”
"Is that what we're doing? Hanging out?"
He tickled my foot, and an unholy shriek escaped me as I kneed him solidly in the side. He laughed, dragging me closer and lifting a giant bite of sweet and sour chicken to my mouth.
I ate it, of course.
And drank the entirety of the now-watery iced chai latte he'd brought for me.
"If we're going to hang out as friends, there still needs to be rules. I have to know what time you're coming over and leaving," I warned.
