I stuck up my middle fingers and stared at them with a bored expression. “Are y’all done?”

Georgia shook her head. “You don’t have to be defensive, honey. If you let that man put you through the mattress, it’s okay!”

“I did. Many, many times.”

All three of them squealed in unison. The knowing smiles and excited eyes forewarned me of the interrogation coming my way. Although I didn’t want to talk about my and Noble’s situation, I didn’t want to be a Debbie Downer.

“I told y’all that bodyguard dick hypnotized her. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.” Vee snickered.

“Wait, so if you were in orgasm heaven, what happened? Why did you replace him?” Dria quizzed.

“Are you fucking the new bodyguard too?” Vee added.

“What kind of ho do y’all think I am?” I asked before continuing. “I may have caught feelings for Noble. We may have gone on dates and had amazing sex. However, life is complicated and things happen. We had a disagreement and took some space from each other. I’m not fucking Foe. Vee, you would date a man ten years older than you?”

Venus chuckled. “Hell yeah, I would. Girl, it’s only weird when the old men and women go afterteenagers. I’m a grown and mature twenty-seven. I know what I want, and I’m very confident in my ability to cut things off at the first sign of weird shit.”

“Shooters shoot, girl.” I shook my head and refilled my glass.

Finally, the server returned to the table and got my order. I opted for salmon over a bed of rice with a side of asparagus. I also ordered a serving of oysters. We talked until my meal came back. I listened to them fill me in on all the things I’d missed while keeping a low profile.

“Thank y’all for still riding with me,” I commented as we walked outside.

The evening air hit my face with a gentle, cool breeze. The temperature had dropped slightly, and the unbearable heat became bearable. I’d walked them over to Georgia’s car, since she was their designated driver.

“Girl, of course.” Xandria pulled me into a tight hug before she and Venus got into the car.

Georgia lingered behind and eyed me with those soft, knowing eyes. “Be honest with me.”

“Don’t do this right now, Gia,” I begged.

“Nope. I don’t know the next time we’ll see you. I need to make sure youhearandseeme.”

“Fine. What do you want from me?”

“Don’t be stubborn. I can hear it in your voice and see it in your body language that you miss that man. Call him up and make sure y’all are good. Don’t let your fears rob you of your happily ever after.” Georgia bumped her hip with mine and offered a gentle smile before she got in her car.

Foe stood a few feet away with the backseat passenger door open for me. I closed the distance and hopped inside. I immediately pulled out my phone and opened the thread with Noble. There were dozens of unread messages I had ignored over the last couple of weeks. It warmed my heart to see him still check in with me, despite me giving him the silent treatment. I scrolled through the messages, smiling at different ones. The most recent message made me shift in my seat, though.

Good morning, Sunni. I see you’re still ignoring me. I’m not gon lie. I’ve let you set the pace for the last couple of weeks because I didn’t want to lose focus of my main goal, but you’ve got me fucked up now. Have your fun with your lil friends because I’ll be waiting for you when you get home.

My thumbs hovered over the keyboard as I read and reread his message several times. Instead of a reply, I hearted the message and put my phone in my purse. I missed him too much. I didn’t know what he had been up to or what his plans for me were, but I was ready to touch him, feel him, kisshim again.

When Foe pulled up to my house, Noble was the first thing my eyes locked onto. He sat on the porch, looking as good as ever. His hair was freshly cut, his skin radiant under the sunlight, and his body as sexy as I remembered.

I waited for Foe to open my door before I tossed my purse over my shoulder and stepped out. I looked good in my romper and sandals with my natural curls bouncing with each step I took. It felt like we were miles away. I wanted to run to him but remained calm.

“Hey,” I greeted.

His eyes perused my body. It was like he was looking for something. He didn’t greet me back, though. Instead, he stood and looked past me to Foe.

“Give us a couple of hours of privacy.” The deep bravado of his voice sent a chill down my spine. I missed his voice. I missed his lips. I missed his tongue. I looked away from him to refocus my thoughts.

Foe nodded without a word. He got back into the SUV and pulled out of the driveway. I gulped. Alone with Noble could go one of two ways: We could get into another argument or make up for the weeks without physical touch. I prayed for the latter.

“Go inside,” Noble instructed.
