The door opened, and Noble stood there shirtless with his sweatpants hanging loosely around his hips. The prominent and defined V-line made my mouth water. I shook my head and forced my gaze up his sexy ass body to his hands where two black containers were.
Then the smell of my favorite hot honey glazed wings greeted me.
“You got me wings from the food truck by the gas station?” I quizzed.
He nodded with a smirk. “You didn’t eat all of your breakfast and slept through lunch. The sun set about an hour ago, so I figured you’d be hungry.”
My stomach agreed instantly. The sound of the grumble made us both chuckle.
“Thank you. Um . . . I may have sent a text message earlier that, um, I might have overreacted a little. . .” I scratched the back of my neck and looked away.
“Nah, I saw it.” His smirk made me roll my eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
“You’re good. I know women get attitudes when they’re hungry. Eat.”
“You realize actions like this are why I want you so bad, right?” I asked as I grabbed the container and set it on the bedside table. I remade my bed and placed a large towel on the comforter before I sat down with my legs crossed to eat the meal.
“Yeah. Midway through reciting your order I have memorized, I realized I am also too far gone.”
My lips pulled into a wide grin. “So, we’re going to dive headfirst into the deep end?”
He shook his head and sat on the edge of the bed. He positioned himself so his back was to me, but his side profile was visible. “Nah. We’re going to ease into it. You still have a target on your back, and I don’t want to lose sight of that, trying to be your boyfriend and your bodyguard.”
I pouted. “I get it, but I don’t like it.”
“I know.”
A silence washed over us for only a moment before Noble spoke again.
“How about I take you on a date in a couple of days? Something discreet but fun for us to do and get to know each other?”
My heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I bit my lip to keep from squealing. Once I’d calmed down, I gave a cool nod. “I would like that a lot.”
He let out an amused chuckle before he replied, “Great.”
We ate our food in a comfortable silence. The excitement of a date with Noble had me jittery.
Where would we go?
What would we do?
A week later
“I’m not the most romantic nigga in the world, but I did what I could.”
We stepped off the elevator to a rooftop dinner. There were string lights, wine, and pasta set at a table with a live band playing soft jazz music.
“Noble, this is beautiful.”
“I’m glad you like it.”
He led me to the table, pulled out my chair, and waited for me to get situated before he sat across from me. The temperature outside was cool and comfortable. The breeze was light and perfect against my skin. The aroma from the Cajun pasta made my mouth water with anticipation. The sparkling wine paired perfectly with the meal.
“I know you want to get to know me, so I’m going to let you ask me five questions as personal as you want them to be. I get to ask you five questions too.”
I sat up straight and grinned. “Perfect. Are we taking turns, or is this more of a hot seat kind of thing?”
