Haze had been handling the expansion to the dealership. There was some paperwork he had to sign since he was co-owner of the extended portion of the dealership, where luxury bikes would be sold exclusively. He’d told Devyn he would only be an hour. Forty-five minutes after he left the house, he got the call. His baby was in labor, and his ass was about to miss yet another birth of one of his children.

When they found out she was pregnant again, Haze had actually cried. He was so excited to be there every step of the way this time. He’d doted on Devyn her entire pregnancy and barely left her side. Her going into labor on the rare occasion he did leave her side had him beside himself.

Tears stung his eyes at the thought of missing his second child’s birth, and he almost tipped over and wiped out as he bent a corner and pulled into the parking lot of the hospital.

Haze wasted no time going through the front entrance of the hospital and looking around frantically. He was about to start cussing people out simply because he didn’t know where he was supposed to go, but luckily for everyone around him, he saw a sign for labor and delivery.

It took him no time to get to the third floor, and when he did, he shouted out, “Where’s my wife? Devyn Laurent. Where is she?”

“Sir, I can help you over here,” a lady said from behind the desk.

Haze felt like he was about to lose his mind.

“I just need you to tell me where my wife is,” he snapped.

“Henry?” a soft voice said. Haze whirled around and came face to face with Melanie, Devyn’s mom. “She’s right in here. Room 303, baby. She’s been asking for you.”

“Please tell me she ain’t have my son yet,” Haze said desperately as he lightly jogged toward her.

“She hasn’t, baby, but get in there. She’s almost ready to push.”

They rushed into the room, and there she was. She lay on her back with sweat on her brow and a hideous hospital gown on, but she was the prettiest woman he had ever seen. He scrambled over to her and grabbed her hand.

“I’m here, baby. You good? You need anything?” he asked as his eyes raked over her body.

“I’m good, baby. I was just waiting for you,” she muttered.

“Okay, Devyn, I think you’re ready. Can you give me a big push?” a nurse asked. She sat between Devyn’s legs, and Haze’s face scrunched up. He didn’t really like the fact that someone else had eyes on his wife’s pussy, but he had to let them do their job because he didn’t know anything about delivering a damn baby.

Devyn squeezed his hand, and she pushed. Haze cringed because he could tell she was in pain.

“You’re doing so well, ma. So well. I’m so proud of you.” While he spoke, sweat formed on his brow. Adrenaline coursed through his body as he watched his wife strain to push their son out. Suddenly, he felt lightheaded, and the world seemed to slip away from him.

The last thing he heard before his head hit the floor and he passed out cold was, “It’s a boy!”

When he came to, Haze realized he was in a hospital bed with a hospital gown on. Panic flared up in him when he saw an IV in his hand.

“What the fuck?”

“’Bout time you woke up,” a soft voice murmured.

Haze looked to his left and saw Devyn in her own hospital bed with a bundle wrapped in blankets and Hazel sitting beside them.

“My brother is here, Daddy! You missed it!” Hazel squealed as she peered down at the bundle of blankets.

“Don’t rub it in, baby,” Devyn whispered to Hazel. She glanced at her husband with worry in her gaze. “How are you feeling?”

“Man, please tell me I ain’t faint like a bitch and miss the birth of my son. Please don’t tell me that,” Haze muttered in complete shock.

“Baby, . . . it’s okay. Mama got it on video. He came so quickly. It all happened so fast . . .”

“Fuck.” His head dropped to the pillow. A single tear of frustration fell out of his eye, and he swiped it angrily.

The sheets on his bed tugged, and when he looked to his left, he saw Hazel trying to climb up onto his bed. With a strong arm, he pulled her up. She lay on his chest, and he felt more at peace. His baby always knew when he needed her most. He closed his eyes for a moment and allowed the moment to resonate with him. His wife, son, and daughter were alive and well. That needed to be enough for him. His head throbbed, and he desperately wanted to fall into a deep sleep, but he knew he couldn’t. He couldn’t miss any more moments.

“Here, meet your son.”

Haze’s eyes popped open, and he looked at Devyn in alarm. She now stood next to his bed and handed him their son.
