“It’s gorgeous. I wish we could stay here forever,” she said.

“No such luck. But maybe we can come back.”

Jaclyn put her arms around his neck. “Thank you. For this, and the dinner, and the entire day. It means a lot to me.”

“You mean a lot to me,” Marshall said.

She could have sworn her heart stuttered at the look in his eyes.

They undressed eachother slowly. Jaclyn unbuttoned his shirt enough for him to pull it over his head and toss it aside. He turned her around to face the mirror over the dresser and unzipped her dress, a simple red sheath that caressed her lovely curves as he meant to do. Her bent neck looked vulnerable, and so, so tempting. He kissed her nape and then her shoulders. She started to turn around but he stopped her. He unhooked her bra and she let the straps slide down her arms, dropping the bra on the floor. Her breasts were full and high, with peach-colored nipples that begged to be kissed.

But he didn’t. Not yet. He cupped her breasts, plucked the nipples of first one then the other until they stood out in hard points. Jaclyn groaned and raised one arm to slide around his neck. “You are so beautiful,” he whispered in her ear. Even more so now that all she wore was a tiny white thong.

He’d long since become hard, so he had to use both hands to undo his jeans and slide them and his underwear down his legs and off. She started to turn around again. “Shh. Just relax.”

She made a sound halfway between a laugh and a groan. “Not happening.”

One hand still on her breast, he slid the other down beneath the tiny triangle of fabric and cupped her, urging her legs to part. When she did he thrust a finger inside her, slid it out and entered her again.

“Marshall, take me to bed.”

“Soon,” he promised. “Soon.” But first, he wanted her naked and open to him. He pulled down her panties, letting her step out of them. Finally letting her turn around, he walked her backward to the bed. “Lie back,” he told her when she sat. He kissed her, starting with her mouth. Simply kissed her until she was panting and writhing. Then he started making his way down her body, his lips tasting, caressing every inch of bare skin.

When he reached the apex of her thighs, he pushed her legs apart and used his mouth to make her come. She cried out, her fingers tightening on his hair. Then she took over, pushing him onto his back and giving him a sensual smile with her kiss-swollen lips. “My turn,” she said.

Her soft, warm mouth felt like pure heaven on his aching flesh. When she’d brought him so close to the edge of orgasm that he knew he wouldn’t last he pulled her up and hoarsely said, “Inside. I want to be inside you.”

He helped her climb on top, shuddered as she took him into her in a single downward thrust. Her hair tumbled over her shoulders and over her breasts, her eyes locked on his until he felt her muscles tighten. Her head fell back as she rode them both to oblivion, and he gave a guttural groan, gripping her hips as he thrust up and spilled himself endlessly inside her.

Long moments later he rolled aside, put his arm around her and snuggled her up against his side. “Jaclyn?”

“Hmm.”

“I love you.”

She pushed herself up off his chest and stared at him. “What did you say?”

“I said I love you.” When she didn’t speak he added, “Don’t worry. I don’t expect you to say it back.”

“That’s not it. Oh, Marshall. I love you too.”

He searched her eyes. “You don’t look or sound very happy about that.”

“This is exactly what I was afraid would happen.”

“That we’d fall in love?” She nodded. “Why are you afraid?”

“I’m afraid that it won’t last. That it can’t last.”

“Why can’t it last?”

“You live on your ranch in Whiskey River. I live in Dallas. I told you from the first that long distance would be hard.”

“I know. But we’re making it work.”

“For now. But what about in the future?”
