“No.”

“We have to, Dylan,” she argued. “He keeps all his records in his office. What if there’s something that we can use as leverage against him?”

“Absolutely not.” I shook my head. “Joanna is back and I don’t want to see her face.”

“Dylan—”

“No!”

“Moonshine, maybe he’s right. What if there’s nothing there?”

She turned around and looked at him. “But what if there’s something? You said it yourself. We have to do everything possible to outsmart them. They have more power than we do, but if, let’s say, we got our hands on something incriminating, Judah Blackwood could rot in jail for everything he did.”

“So could I,” I answered.

“Dylan.” Her voice softened. “Please. Let’s at least pass by to see if she’s home. If Joanna is there, we won’t go in, but we have to try. Please.”

My hand slammed against the steering wheel. “Fuck!” I knew I was going to do it. There were only a handful of things I wouldn’t do for her, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to deny her. Even if I did, she would find a way to go back on her own and having her out of my sight right now wasn’t smart.

“Fine.” I exhaled and slowly stepped on the accelerator. “But we need to be fast even if they’re not home.”

“Deal.”

“And, Sky.” I looked at her. “No funny business. We go in and we get the fuck out. I don’t want us to linger there for longer than necessary.”

“I don’t want to be there either, but we need to do this. All those kids they’re keeping, all those people he destroyed because he wanted more power… It all needs to stop, Dylan. They need to be stopped and I’m not going to rest until I see them pay for what they did.”

“I, uh,” Ash stammered. “There’s something you two should know.”

“Do tell,” I grunted.

“That intel I got,” he continued, ignoring my remark. “They’re invested in this as well, and they want to help.”

“What the fuck, Ash?” Skylar exclaimed.

“Who are they?” I asked calmly.

“Sons of Hades.”

“Motherfucker.” I swiveled around. “Are you insane?”

“Did you really just ask me that?”

“They’re bad news,” I murmured as I turned around. “Terrible fucking news.”

“They’re the best shot we have,” Ash answered. “They know a lot more than any of us do. They’ve been at war with the Syndicate and the Outfit for longer than we’ve been alive, and they could help.”

“I don’t want them to help,” I said.

“Well, maybe I do,” Skylar butted in. “You don’t get to choose for me anymore.”

“Little One—”

“No, Dylan. If they’re the ones that could help, then we let them. We’re kids for fuck’s sake. I just turned eighteen, and I’m supposed to be figuring out who’s trying to kill me? If there’s somebody out there who could help us with this mess, then we’ll try.”

“They’re the worst fucking thing that could happen to us, Little One.”

“They’re better than the Order,” she said. “Better than any of us in fact. If they know something we don’t, then we’ll listen to them.”
