“You fool! They were stolen from their lives, brainwashed into believing the bullshit your father created. He made us all believe that this was the only Order. He made us think that we were the pure ones, that His Infernal Majesty chose us for this task, but he was lying.”

“I don’t understand.”

“You were never supposed to marry Skylar, darling. I was never supposed to marry your father, because the real Order… They don’t allow those things.”

“You’re fucking lying!”

“I’m not. Everything he told us, everything you did, Dylan… it was all for nothing. You never had to do any of these things. I never should’ve become this woman filled with hatred. I was never supposed to marry my own brother! They lied to us! They lied to me.”

“No, no, no, no,” I chanted, walking backward until my back hit the wall. “That can’t be the truth. He told me Skylar was mine. He told me she was meant to be mine, just like you were meant to be his. He told me!”

“I know, darling. I know. But she was never supposed to be yours. She will never be yours because I was never fully your father’s.”

All these years, all those things I did. All those lies he told me, all those promises he made. All the rituals and sacrifices, and the nights where I lost pieces of myself. All the love I had for Skylar… It was all a lie. It was all a dream that would never come true because she never belonged to me.

“Dylan.” She came closer, her hand extended, almost touching me.

“Don’t. Fucking. Touch. Me.”

“I’m sorry.”

“No, you’re not. You’re just sorry you didn’t tell me all of this before. You’re just sorry because you didn’t get to have what you wanted the most, so now you’re lying to me, trying to take me away from her.”

“I am not lying! Ask him, go on. Ask him about the Dominion.”

“The who?”

“The Dominion, Dylan. The real Order. Black Dahlia was the name your great-great-great-grandfather came up with, and everyone believed him. That man was wicked and vile. He made them all believe that the only Order that ever existed was the one in Winworth, but that’s not true.”

“Shut up.” I closed my eyes.

“The Dominion isn’t based in Winworth. They’re all over the world, and now they finally know.”

“They finally know what?” I looked at her, pure anger flowing through my veins.

“They know they need to cleanse the world once again. They know they need to clean up the mess our family made.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” I took a step closer.

“Your father, Skylar, they’re going to take them.” She grinned. “We will finally be able to be together, darling. He can have her, just how he always wanted to have her.”

“What?”

“Your dad. He’s been fucking her for years now. She never belonged to you because she already belonged to somebody else.”

Red.

Color of love and the color of anger.

I couldn’t stop myself. I didn’t want to stop myself.

I advanced toward her, and she had nowhere to go. Wrapping my hand around her throat I pushed her toward the wall, her back hitting the flat surface with a thud.

“Say that again?”

She fought for air, her nails dug into my hand, but I couldn’t be moved.

“Say it!” I thundered.
