Years of history would be erased tonight, and if this would be the last thing I ever did, then I could die a happy person. People living in the houses from across the streets started filling it, watching in horror as their beloved City Hall burned to the ground. I wondered if they knew what kind of monsters lived among them. I wondered if they participated, and if tonight was just a lucky night for them.
Tires screeched behind me, and I turned to see a furious Kane rushing toward me as soon as he got out of the car.
“What the fuck, Skylar!” he roared, stopping once he saw the flames. “What did you do?”
“I burned them all.” I grinned. “I burned them all to the ground.”
“Sky,” he groaned. “What the actual fuck.”
“Judah killed Dylan and Ash, Kane,” I said, my voice wavering for the first time tonight. “He burned Ash’s car, so I burned what he loved the most.” I turned around toward City Hall. “I burned his precious Order.”
“You need to get out of here, Sky. We need to get out of here.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” I argued. “Judah will haunt me no matter where I go.”
“Skylar—”
“No, Kane. He wants me, then he can get me. I’m done hiding. He took the two people I loved the most. He took everything from me! I don’t care anymore what happens to me when I no longer have a reason to exist.”
Something passed over his face. Something I couldn’t quite place, and before I could even think about it, a man I never saw before walked behind Kane, looking at me instead of the burning building.
“We need to go,” he told Kane, his eyes never moving away from my face. “Like, now.”
“Who are you?” I asked him.
“Kane,” he warned without answering me.
“Take her,” Kane told him, finally seeing the cars of his parents. “Take her to the car.”
“Kane, no.” I stepped back, moving away from them. “I told you already. I’m not leaving.”
“And I’m not asking,” Kane barked. “Take her.”
The unknown man walked toward me, his dark eyes boring into mine.
“No!” I yelled out as he took a hold of my arm. “Let go of me!”
“Goddammit,” he cursed, and in the next moment, he had me over his shoulder, walking toward the car.
“Let me go!” I shrieked. “I don’t want to leave. Let me go.”
“We’re trying to save your life.”
“I don’t want to be saved!” I thundered, hitting him on his lower back, but he never budged. “I want to die,” I cried out. “I want to be with them. Please, let me go.”
“Tough luck, darling. You’re not dying tonight.”
“No!”
He opened the back door of the car, and pulled me down, pushing me inside of the car.
The lock clicked as soon as he closed the door, my fists banging against the glass as he walked toward the front door.
“You motherfucking—”
“Shut the fuck up!” he thundered, his voice booming inside the car. “They’re not dead.” He turned around and looked at me.
“W-What?”
