His jaw clenched at the memory of how he received it. “A dark fae ran me through with a sword.”
A glimmer of apprehension shone in her eyes. “Good thing it wasn’t made from dark fae metal.”
“It was.”
Her jaw dropped as her gaze shifted from his face to the scar and back again. Not only had he somehow miraculously survived that, but a dark fae using a dark fae sword against another was something that never happened.
“How… how are you still alive?” she gasped. “It’sdirectlythrough your heart.”
Brokk’s lips twitched toward a smile. “Being a half vampire has its advantages.”
Reminding her that he was part vampire would probably drive her away, but he needed space from her. He couldn’t think when she was this close and her scent was everywhere.
Instead of pulling away at the reminder of his half-vampire nature, she stared at the scar while caressing it. He almost gripped her hand and moved it—there was only so much a man could take—but though her touch made him crazy, he didn’t want it to stop.
“Amazing,” she murmured.
When she licked her lips, he became fully erect. She was fascinating, beautiful, and he wanted her so badly that lust pulsed through him with every beat of his heart—a heart that pounded faster as she continued to caress. He wasn’t sure she was aware of what she was doing, but her touch made him wild.
Unable to resist her lure, he cupped the back of her head. Uncertainty filled her eyes, but she didn’t pull away.
Her fingers stilled on his skin as her breathing ceased, and she swayed toward him. They gazed at each other for a second, but Brokk could no more resist her than the sun could resist shining.
Bending his head, he waited for her to tell him to stop, push him away, and look at him with disgust and loathing, but she remained unmoving as his lips brushed hers. A bolt of electricity coursed between them as he deepened the kiss while still giving her time to push him away.
When his tongue stroked her lips, she opened to him. She tasted as refreshing and freeing as she smelled. She was nature and passion rolled into one, and the heady combination was one he couldn’t resist.
When his other hand fell to her waist, he pulled her flush against him. She gasped a little when his erection prodded her belly but didn’t recoil from him.
She was kissing a vampire and didn’t care as their tongues entwined, and she rose onto her toes to thread her fingers through his hair. A low growl emanated from him when she rubbed the tips of his sensitive ears.
She had no idea the fire she played with or the savagery with which he wanted her. His hand slid down her back and inside the waistband of her pants to cup her firm ass.
Her skin was like silk against his palm, and the scent of arousal became her most prominent as it permeated the air. He hadn’t realized howmuchhe wanted her until he held her.
It had been there for a while, building over time, but she’d awakened something primitive inside him, and it wouldn’t be denied. He’d never experienced this unraveling, this borderline loss of control, but it built toward a crescendo only she could unleash and sate.
Releasing her ass, he slipped his hand free to find the button on her pants; he undid it. He pushed them down her hips, and they slid down to pool at her feet.
He was reluctant to break the kiss, but he had to taste her, fuck her, and hear her cry his name as he finished what she started with herself by the stream. Worried she might come to her senses, he went to his knees before she could stop him.
Grasping her slender thighs, he nudged them further apart and lifted his mouth to her core. She tasted of Heaven and sin, a delicious mix that shattered his remaining restraint.
CHAPTERFORTY-THREE
Kaylia’s headspun as Brokk’s mouth settled against her, and his tongue did the most deliciously wicked things she’d ever experienced. The man weaved magic with his mouth, and she rocked against him until her legs quaked.
A dim, distant part of her tried to speak up and remind her why she shouldn’t be doing this, but as she gripped his ears and pulled him more firmly against her, she didn’t care what it tried to say. All she craved washimand the ecstasy he created.
Even if she could recall why this should stop, she wouldn’t end it. It felt far too good.
Her head tipped back, and she moaned as she rode his tongue. A long-forgotten tightness clenched her belly, her toes curled, and the world filled with rapture as she came apart with a cry.
Feeling as if the bones were pulled from her body, she would have fallen to the ground if he hadn’t caught her and scooped her into his arms. Kaylia smiled as her head fell against his shoulder, and tremors continued to roll through her.
The thick wall of his muscles bunched around her as he moved. Cradled against his chest, she’d never felt so secure and protected as when he held her.
He shifted her in his arms, and she didn’t know what he was doing until he settled her on the ground. Except, he’d somehow managed to get a blanket down.
